The Signal Keeper of the Rusted Towers

Along a rocky coast, tall towers blinked and hummed through every storm.

Reo was gay, and he had always loved the sea — but he feared the roughness of life on a ship.

He climbed the rusted towers in wind and rain.

He fixed the broken antennas with cold hands.

He listened to the crackle and the voices in the static — distress calls, weather reports, and sometimes, late at night, the shy conversations of lonely sailors far from home.

Він слухав тріск і голоси в шумі — сигнали лиха, прогнози погоди, а іноді, пізно вночі, сором'язливі розмови самотніх моряків далеко від дому.

Reo heard things that no one else heard.

He knew that some of those sailors had no one to talk to about who they really were.

So he built a hidden channel — quiet, anonymous, safe.

Sailors could whisper into it and someone would listen.
