Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Un misterioso cavaliere verde arriva alla corte di Re Artù il giorno di Capodanno con una sfida strana e pericolosa. Sir Gawain accetta la sfida, iniziando un'avventura che metterà alla prova il suo coraggio e il suo onore.

My name is Excalibur.

I am King Arthur's sword.
Vedo tutto in questo castello.
I see everything in this castle.
Oggi, un grande uomo verde viene alla nostra cena.
Today, a big green man comes to our dinner party.
Lui è molto alto.
He is very tall.
La sua pelle è verde come l'erba.
His skin is green like grass.
Anche i suoi capelli sono verdi.
His hair is green too.
Anche il suo cavallo è verde!
Even his horse is green!
Il Cavaliere Verde ride molto forte.
The Green Knight laughs very loud.
"Voglio giocare!"
"I want to play a game!"
dice.
he says.
"Qualcuno può colpirmi con un'ascia."
"Someone can hit me with an axe."
"Ma l'anno prossimo, li colpirò di rimando."
"But next year, I will hit them back."
Tutti i cavalieri hanno paura.
All the knights are scared.
Guardano il loro cibo.
They look at their food.
Nessuno vuole giocare.
Nobody wants to play.
Il giovane Gawain si alza in piedi.
Young Gawain stands up.
Lui è il nipote di Arthur.
He is Arthur's nephew.
"Giocherò al tuo gioco,"
"I will play your game,"
he says.
Il Cavaliere Verde dà a Gawain una grande ascia verde.
The Green Knight gives Gawain a big green axe.
È molto pesante.
It is very heavy.
Gawain la solleva in alto e taglia la testa del Cavaliere Verde!
Gawain lifts it high and cuts off the Green Knight's head!
Ma aspetta!
But wait!
The Green Knight picks up his head.
He holds it in his hands.
The head talks!
dice la testa. Poi il Cavaliere Verde se ne va a cavallo.
"See you next year, Gawain!"
Passa un anno.
Then the Green Knight rides away.
Passa un anno.
One year passes.
Gawain deve trovare il Cavaliere Verde.
Gawain must find the Green Knight.
Lo porto con me.
He takes me with him.
Cavalchiamo attraverso foreste buie e montagne fredde.
We ride through dark forests and cold mountains.
Gawain trova un castello.
Gawain finds a castle.
Un nobile signore vive lì con la sua bella moglie.
A nice lord lives there with his pretty wife.
"Restate con noi!"
"Stay with us!"
they say.
"Il Cavaliere Verde vive qui vicino."
"The Green Knight lives near here."
Ogni giorno, il signore va a caccia.
Every day, the lord goes hunting.
Sua moglie fa visita a Gawain.
His wife visits Gawain.
Lei cerca di baciarlo.
She tries to kiss him.
She gives him a magic green belt.
"This will keep you safe,"
she says.
Gawain keeps the belt secret.
He does not tell the lord about it. Finally, Gawain meets the Green Knight again.
"Ora è il mio turno!"
"Now it is my turn!"
dice il Cavaliere Verde. Gawain si inginocchia.
says the Green Knight. Gawain kneels down.
Il Cavaliere Verde alza la sua ascia.
The Green Knight lifts his axe.
La fa oscillare verso il basso... ma fa solo un piccolo taglio sul collo di Gawain.
He swings it down... but only makes a tiny cut on Gawain's neck.
"Perché non mi hai ucciso?"
"Why did you not kill me?"
asks Gawain. The Green Knight laughs.
"Sono il signore del castello!"
"I am the lord from the castle!"
"Ti stavo mettendo alla prova."
"I was testing you."
"Hai tenuto segreto il cinturone magico."
"You kept the magic belt secret."
"Quella era una piccola bugia."
"That was a small lie."
"Quindi ti ho fatto un piccolo taglio."
"So I gave you a small cut."
Gawain feels ashamed.
But he learned something important.
Even good knights make mistakes.
We ride home to Camelot.
Gawain tells everyone his story.
Now all the knights wear green belts.
They remember that nobody is perfect.
I am just a sword, but I know this: being brave is good.
Being honest is better.
