The sky was soft and white like cotton.

When people were hungry, they would reach up and take pieces of the sky to eat.

The sky tasted sweet and good.

Era como pan y miel juntos.

It was like bread and honey together.

El Espíritu del Cielo se complacía en alimentar a la gente.

The Sky Spirit was happy to feed the people.

Pero el Espíritu del Cielo tenía una regla.

But the Sky Spirit had one rule.

"Toma solo lo que necesites,"

"Take only what you need,"

dijo el Espíritu del Cielo.

said the Sky Spirit.

"No desperdicies mi regalo."

"Do not waste my gift."

Durante muchos años, la gente siguió esta regla.

For many years, people followed this rule.

Tomaban solo pequeños trozos cuando tenían hambre.

They took only small pieces when they were hungry.

Nunca desperdiciaron el cielo.

They never wasted the sky.

Pero con el paso del tiempo, la gente se volvió codiciosa.

But as time passed, people became greedy.

Tomaban grandes pedazos de cielo aun cuando no tenían hambre.

They took big pieces of sky even when they were not hungry.

Tomaron más y más.

They took more and more.

No podían comerlo todo.

They could not eat it all.

Los pedazos sobrantes del cielo fueron desechados.

The leftover pieces of sky were thrown away.

Se quedaron en el suelo para pudrirse.

They were left on the ground to rot.

Esto entristeció y enojó mucho al Espíritu del Cielo.

This made the Sky Spirit very sad and angry.

Un día, una anciana tomó un enorme pedazo de cielo.

One day, an old woman took a huge piece of sky.

Era mucho más grande de lo que necesitaba.

It was much bigger than she needed.

Comió un poco, pero no pudo terminarlo todo.

She ate a little bit, but she could not finish it all.

Trató de esconder el cielo sobrante detrás de su casa.

She tried to hide the leftover sky behind her house.

Pero el Espíritu del Cielo lo vio todo.

But the Sky Spirit saw everything.

El Espíritu del Cielo estaba muy disgustado.

The Sky Spirit was very upset.

"Te dije que tomaras solo lo que necesitas,"

"I told you to take only what you need,"

dijo el Espíritu del Cielo.

said the Sky Spirit.

"Pero eres codicioso y derrochador."

"But you are greedy and wasteful."

No me escuchas.

"You do not listen to me."

El Espíritu del Cielo comenzó a alejarse de la tierra.

The Sky Spirit began to move away from the earth.

Más y más alto se elevó el cielo.

Higher and higher the sky went.

La gente alzó las manos hacia arriba, pero ya no podía tocar el cielo.

The people reached up with their hands, but they could not touch the sky anymore.

¡Por favor, regresa!

"Please come back!"

gritó la gente.

cried the people.

¡Lo sentimos!

"We are sorry!"

"¡Ya no seremos codiciosos!"

"We will not be greedy anymore!"

Pero ya era demasiado tarde.

But it was too late.

El Espíritu del Cielo se alejó muy, muy lejos.

The Sky Spirit moved far, far away.

El cielo se volvió azul y distante.

The sky became blue and distant.

A partir de ese día, la gente ya no pudo comer pedazos de cielo.

From that day on, people could no longer eat pieces of sky.

Tuvieron que trabajar arduamente para cultivar alimentos de la tierra.

They had to work hard to grow food from the ground.

Tenían que plantar semillas y cuidar los cultivos.

They had to plant seeds and take care of crops.

El cielo se mantuvo lejos para recordar a las personas que no fueran codiciosas.

The sky stayed far away to remind people not to be greedy.

Nos recuerda usar solo lo que necesitamos y no desperdiciar las cosas buenas.

It reminds us to use only what we need and not to waste good things.
