Os lobos o encontraram quando ele era bebê.

The wolves found him when he was a baby.

A Mamãe Loba disse,

Mama Wolf said,

"Este bebê está com fome."

"This baby is hungry."

Vou alimentá-lo com leite.

"I will feed him milk."

Papai Lobo disse,

Papa Wolf said,

"Sim, nós o manteremos em segurança."

"Yes, we will keep him safe."

Mas Shere Khan, o tigre, está furioso.

But Shere Khan the tiger is angry.

Ele diz,

He says,

"Aquele menino não pertence aqui!"

"That boy does not belong here!"

"Os meninos se tornam homens."

"Boys become men."

"Os homens têm fogo."

"Men have fire."

O fogo queima a selva!

"Fire burns the jungle!"

Os outros animais falam sobre isso todos os dias.

The other animals talk about this every day.

Kaa, a serpente, me disse,

Kaa the snake told me,

"O menino consegue subir em árvores como um macaco."

"The boy can climb trees like a monkey."

Mas ele faz ferramentas com as mãos.

"But he makes tools with his hands."

Nenhum animal faz isso.

"No animal does this."

Bagheera, a pantera, disse,

Bagheera the panther said,

"Mowgli é esperto."

"Mowgli is smart."

Ele aprende rapidamente as regras da nossa selva.

"He learns our jungle rules fast."

"Mas ele pensa diferente de nós."

"But he thinks different from us."

Os elefantes estão preocupados.

The elephants are worried.

Eles dizem,

They say,

"O que acontece quando ele crescer?"

"What happens when he grows big?"

"Ele ficará?"

"Will he stay?"

"Ele partirá?"

"Will he leave?"

Ontem, algo grande aconteceu!

Yesterday, something big happened!

Mowgli fez fogo com dois gravetos.

Mowgli made fire with two sticks.

Todos os animais fugiram assustados.

All the animals ran away scared.

Até mesmo o corajoso Bagheera!

Even brave Bagheera!

Mas então Mowgli fez algo extraordinário.

But then Mowgli did something amazing.

Ele usou o fogo para cozinhar peixe.

He used the fire to cook fish.

Ele compartilhou o peixe cozido com sua família de lobos.

He shared the cooked fish with his wolf family.

Eles gostaram muito!

They liked it very much!

Agora alguns animais pensam de forma diferente.

Now some animals think differently.

Talvez humanos e animais possam ser amigos.

Maybe humans and animals can be friends.

Shere Khan ainda diz que não. Mas a selva está mudando.
