The Crow and the Swan
Um corvo vê um belo cisne branco e fica com inveja de sua aparência. O corvo decide tentar se transformar para ficar tão bonito quanto o cisne.
Um corvo viu um belo cisne branco nadando em um lago.
A crow saw a beautiful white swan swimming in a lake.
O corvo olhou para suas próprias penas negras.
The crow looked at his own black feathers.
Ele se sentiu triste.
He felt sad.
"Quero ser branco e belo como o cisne,"
"I want to be white and beautiful like the swan,"
pensou o corvo.
thought the crow.
O corvo observava o cisne todos os dias.
The crow watched the swan every day.
Ele viu o cisne banhando-se na água limpa.
He saw the swan washing in the clean water.
"Talvez lavar-me também me torne branco,"
"Maybe washing will make me white too,"
disse o corvo.
said the crow.
O corvo deixou seu lar nas árvores.
The crow left his home in the trees.
Ele foi viver junto à água.
He went to live by the water.
Todos os dias ele lavava suas penas negras.
Every day he washed his black feathers.
Ele as esfregava e escovava com força.
He rubbed and scrubbed them hard.
Mas suas penas permaneceram pretas.
But his feathers stayed black.
O corvo ficou muito magro porque não conseguia encontrar sua comida habitual perto da água.
The crow got very thin because he could not find his usual food near the water.
Ele ficou fraco e doente.
He became weak and sick.
Logo o pobre corvo morreu.
Soon the poor crow died.
Suas penas ainda eram negras.
His feathers were still black.
