He lives in the bell tower with me.

Quasi has a big back and one eye is smaller than the other.
Mas ele tem o maior coração de toda Paris. Quasi toca os sinos todos os dias.
But he has the biggest heart in all of Paris. Quasi rings the bells every day.

As pessoas na cidade lá embaixo acham que Quasi é assustador.
The people in the city below think Quasi is scary.

He feeds the birds.

He talks to me when he is sad.

He makes beautiful wood animals with his hands.

One day, a girl comes to our church.
Seu nome é Esmeralda.
Her name is Esmeralda.
Ela tem longos cabelos negros e dança na rua.
She has long black hair and she dances in the street.
O juiz cruel quer machucá-la porque ela é diferente.
The mean judge wants to hurt her because she is different.
Quasi vê isso da nossa torre.
Quasi sees this from our tower.
"Preciso ajudá-la,"
"I must help her,"

Quasi tells me.

Ela não tem medo dele como as outras pessoas.

The judge comes with many soldiers.

Fire starts everywhere.

Quasi e Esmeralda escapam juntos.
Quasi and Esmeralda escape together.

They run far from Paris to a place where people do not judge others for how they look.

Now I sit alone on my church.

But I am happy.

My friend found love.

Sometimes at night, I hear the wind whisper their names.
