Maya e Tom Observam o Céu

Maya adorava olhar para as estrelas.

Maya loved to look at the stars.

Todas as noites, ela se sentava no telhado com seu telescópio velho.

Every night, she sat on her roof with her old telescope.

Ela vivia numa cidade pequena onde o céu era escuro e límpido.

She lived in a small town where the sky was dark and clear.

As estrelas pareciam pequenos diamantes.

The stars looked like tiny diamonds.

Numa terça-feira à noite, Maya viu algo estranho.

One Tuesday night, Maya saw something strange.

Uma luz brilhante se moveu pelo céu.

A bright light moved across the sky.

Não era um avião.

It was not a plane.

Os aviões têm luzes piscantes e fazem barulho.

Planes have blinking lights and make noise.

Esta luz era silenciosa e muito rápida.

This light was silent and very fast.

Mãe, vem depressa!

"Mom, come quick!"

Maya gritou.

Maya called.

A mãe dela subiu no telhado.

Her mother climbed onto the roof.

"O que foi, Maya?"

"What is it, Maya?"

Olha!

"Look!

Aquela luz está se movendo em círculo.

That light is moving in a circle.

Os aviões não conseguem fazer isso.

Planes cannot do that."

Eles assistiram juntos.

They watched together.

A luz parou de se mover.

The light stopped moving.

Então ela subiu e desceu muito rapidamente.

Then it went up and down very fast.

Então desapareceu.

Then it disappeared.

"Isso foi estranho", disse a mãe de Maya.

"That was unusual," said Maya's mother.

"Talvez tenha sido um helicóptero."

"Maybe it was a helicopter."

Mas Maya sabia que não era um helicóptero.

But Maya knew it was not a helicopter.

Os helicópteros são barulhentos e lentos.

Helicopters are loud and slow.

No dia seguinte na escola, Maya contou ao seu amigo Tom sobre a luz estranha.

The next day at school, Maya told her friend Tom about the strange light.

"Eu também vi alguma coisa!"

"I saw something too!"

disse o Tom.

"Na semana passada, eu estava pescando com meu pai no lago.

"Last week, I was fishing with my dad at the lake.

Vimos três luzes laranja em formato de triângulo.

We saw three orange lights in a triangle shape.

Elas voaram sobre a água sem fazer nenhum som.

They flew over the water without making any sound."

Maya estava animada.

Maya was excited.

"Did you take a picture?"

Tentei, mas as luzes estavam muito fortes.

"I tried, but the lights were too bright.

Maya e Tom decidiram observar o céu juntos.

She could see the disk very clearly.

There were no windows.

Suddenly, the white light turned off.

The disk spun around three times very fast.

Então ele disparou para o céu e desapareceu entre as estrelas.

Then it shot up into the sky and vanished among the stars.

Maya e Tom ficaram sentados em silêncio por um longo tempo.

Maya and Tom sat quietly for a long time.

"O que você acha que era?"

"What do you think it was?"

perguntou Tom.

"Acho que era um OVNI", disse Maya.

"I think it was a UFO," said Maya.

OVNI significa Objeto Voador Não Identificado.

"UFO means Unidentified Flying Object.

Ninguém sabe o que são ou de onde vêm.

Nobody knows what they are or where they come from."

Você acha que havia alienígenas dentro?

"Do you think there were aliens inside?"

"Talvez", disse Maya.

"Maybe," said Maya.

"Ou talvez fosse um avião secreto do governo."

"Or maybe it was a secret airplane from the government.

Ou talvez fosse algo completamente diferente.

Or maybe it was something else completely different."

Tom assentiu com a cabeça.

Tom nodded.

"Devemos contar para alguém?"

"Should we tell someone?"

Maya pensou sobre isso.

Maya thought about this.

Quem acreditaria em nós?

"Who would believe us?

"Os adultos sempre dizem que temos muita imaginação."

Adults always say we have big imaginations."

Eles decidiram continuar observando o céu.

They decided to keep watching the sky.

Talvez eles vissem o disco misterioso novamente.

Maybe they would see the mysterious disk again.

Talvez eles descobrissem o seu segredo.

Maybe they would learn its secret.

A partir daquela noite, Maya e Tom tornaram-se observadores do céu.

From that night on, Maya and Tom became sky watchers.

Eles viram muitas coisas estranhas - luzes que dançavam, objetos que mudavam de forma e coisas voadoras que se moviam rápido demais para serem máquinas terrestres.

They saw many strange things - lights that danced, objects that changed shape, and flying things that moved too fast for earthly machines.

The mystery continued, and so did their friendship.
