These three doctors thought they were very smart.

Andaban por ahí diciendo,

They walked around saying,

"¡Podemos arreglar cualquier cosa!"

"We can fix anything!"

"¡Somos los mejores médicos del mundo!"

"We are the best doctors in the world!"

La gente del pueblo dijo,

The people in town said,

¡Demuéstralo!

"Prove it!"

El primer doctor se cortó su propia mano.

The first doctor cut off his own hand.

¡Mira!

"Look!"

"¡Lo regresaré mañana!"

"I will put it back tomorrow!"

Metió la mano en una caja.

He put his hand in a box.

El segundo doctor se arrancó su propio corazón.

The second doctor pulled out his own heart.

¡Mira!

"See!"

"¡Lo arreglaré mañana!"

"I will fix it tomorrow!"

Puso su corazón en un frasco.

He put his heart in a jar.

El tercer doctor se sacó sus propios ojos.

The third doctor took out his own eyes.

¡Mira!

"Watch!"

"¡Los pondré de vuelta mañana!"

"I will put them back tomorrow!"

Puso sus ojos en un cuenco.

He put his eyes in a bowl.

Pero esa noche, una sirvienta hambrienta llegó a la cocina.

But that night, a hungry servant girl came to the kitchen.

Vio la mano y pensó,

She saw the hand and thought,

"¡Mmm, pollo!"

"Mmm, chicken!"

¡Se lo comió!

She ate it!

En su lugar, puso una pata de gato en la caja.

She put a cat's paw in the box instead.

Vio el corazón y pensó,

She saw the heart and thought,

"¡Mmm, carne!"

"Mmm, meat!"

¡Se la comió!

She ate it!

Puso un corazón de cerdo en el frasco en su lugar.

She put a pig's heart in the jar instead.

Vio los ojos y pensó,

She saw the eyes and thought,

"¡Mmm, uvas!"

"Mmm, grapes!"

¡Se las comió!

She ate them!

En su lugar, puso ojos de búho en el tazón.

She put owl eyes in the bowl instead.

A la mañana siguiente, los médicos volvieron a poner todo en su lugar.

The next morning, the doctors put everything back.

Pero ahora el primer doctor tenía una pata de gato.

But now the first doctor had a cat paw.

Solo podía arañar a las personas, no ayudarlas.

He could only scratch people, not help them.

El segundo doctor tenía corazón de cerdo.

The second doctor had a pig heart.

Solo quería comer y dormir en el lodo.

He only wanted to eat and sleep in mud.

El tercer doctor tenía ojos de búho.

The third doctor had owl eyes.

Solo podía ver de noche y no dejaba de decir

He could only see at night and kept saying

¡Uh!

"Hoo!"

"¡Huu!"

"Hoo!"

La gente del pueblo se rió.

The town people laughed.

¡Ustedes no son buenos médicos!

"You are not good doctors!"

¡Váyanse!

"Go away!"

Los tres doctores se marcharon corriendo, muy avergonzados.

The three doctors ran away, very embarrassed.

I learned that day: Don't show off.
