The Greedy Ants and the Great Winter
Questa favola racconta la storia di tre diversi tipi di formiche in una colonia. Alcune formiche fanno promesse che non possono mantenere. Altri vogliono cose che non possono permettersi. Quando arriva l'inverno, l'intera colonia affronta grandi problemi. Questa storia ci insegna qualcosa sui soldi, la fiducia e il prendere decisioni sagge.
C'era una volta una grande colonia di formiche che viveva in una bellissima valle.
Once upon a time, there was a big colony of ants who lived in a beautiful valley.
Queste formiche erano molto diverse dalle altre formiche.
These ants were very different from other ants.
Non gli piaceva lavorare sodo o conservare il cibo per l'inverno.
They did not like to work hard or save food for winter.
In questa colonia, c'erano tre tipi di formiche: Le Formiche Banchiere indossavano cappelli eleganti.
In this colony, there were three types of ants: The Banker Ants wore fancy hats.
Promisero alle altre formiche: "Dateci i vostri semi ora.
They promised other ants: "Give us your seeds now.
Ti restituiremo molti più semi più tardi!
We will give you back many more seeds later!"
Molte formiche credettero loro.
Many ants believed them.
Le formiche domestiche volevano case grandi e belle.
The House Ants wanted big, beautiful homes.
Hanno detto: "Non abbiamo abbastanza semi ora, ma avremo molti semi l'anno prossimo!
They said: "We don't have enough seeds now, but we will have many seeds next year!"
Così presero in prestito dei semi dalle Formiche Banchiere.
So they borrowed seeds from the Banker Ants.
Le formiche operaie lavoravano ogni giorno.
The Worker Ants worked every day.
Conservavano i loro semi e vivevano in case piccole e semplici.
They saved their seeds and lived in small, simple homes.
Per molte estati, la vita è stata bella.
For many summers, life was good.
Le Formiche Banchiere davano semi a chiunque li chiedesse.
The Banker Ants gave seeds to anyone who asked.
Le formiche domestiche costruirono case sempre più grandi.
The House Ants built bigger and bigger homes.
Tutti erano felici.
Everyone was happy.
Ma le Formiche Banchiere fecero qualcosa di molto pericoloso.
But the Banker Ants did something very dangerous.
Presero le promesse dalla Casa delle Formiche e le mescolarono insieme.
They took the promises from House Ants and mixed them together.
Poi vendettero queste promesse miste ad altre formiche.
Then they sold these mixed promises to other ants.
Questi sono semi magici!
"These are magic seeds!"
hanno detto.
they said.
Cresceranno sempre!
"They will always grow!"
Le formiche domestiche hanno comprato case che costavano troppi semi.
The House Ants bought homes that cost too many seeds.
Pensarono: "La mia casa varrà più semi l'anno prossimo.
They thought: "My home will be worth more seeds next year.
Allora potrò ripagare quello che devo.
Then I can pay back what I owe."
Anche le formiche operaie iniziarono a credere.
Even Worker Ants started to believe.
Alcuni hanno comprato anche case grandi.
Some bought big homes too.
Altri diedero i loro semi conservati alle Formiche Banchiere che promisero: "I vostri semi raddoppieranno!
Others gave their saved seeds to Banker Ants who promised: "Your seeds will double!"
Poi, un giorno, accadde qualcosa di terribile.
Then, one day, something terrible happened.
Una formica domestica non riusciva a restituire i suoi semi.
A House Ant could not pay back his seeds.
Poi un'altra Formica Domestica non riuscì a pagare.
Then another House Ant could not pay.
Allora molte Formiche Domestiche non riuscirono a pagare.
Then many House Ants could not pay.
Le formiche banchiere guardarono le loro promesse magiche.
The Banker Ants looked at their magic promises.
Non erano affatto magici!
They were not magic at all!
Non valevano niente!
They were worth nothing!
Il grande inverno arrivò all'improvviso.
The great winter came suddenly.
Le formiche domestiche hanno perso le loro case.
House Ants lost their homes.
Le Formiche Banchiere non avevano semi da restituire.
Banker Ants had no seeds to give back.
Le formiche operaie che avevano riposto fiducia nelle formiche banchiere persero tutti i semi che avevano risparmiato.
Worker Ants who had trusted the Banker Ants lost all their saved seeds.
Tutta la colonia aveva fame e freddo.
The whole colony was hungry and cold.
La saggia vecchia Regina Formica dovette aiutare.
The wise old Queen Ant had to help.
Diede semi dal deposito reale per nutrire tutti.
She gave seeds from the royal storage to feed everyone.
Ma ci vollero molti anni perché la colonia guarisse.
But it took many years for the colony to heal.
Molte formiche impararono una lezione importante: quando qualcosa sembra troppo bello per essere vero, di solito lo è.
Many ants learned an important lesson: When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
È meglio lavorare sodo, risparmiare con attenzione e non essere avidi.
It is better to work hard, save carefully, and not be greedy.
Ma purtroppo, alcune formiche dimenticarono questa lezione.
But sadly, some ants forgot this lesson.
E da qualche parte, altre colonie di formiche stanno commettendo di nuovo gli stessi errori.
And somewhere, other colonies of ants are making the same mistakes again.
Morale: L'avidità e le promesse facili possono distruggere anche le comunità più forti.
Moral: Greed and easy promises can destroy even the strongest communities.
La vera ricchezza deriva dal duro lavoro, dal risparmio attento e dall'aiutarsi reciprocamente.
True wealth comes from hard work, careful saving, and helping each other.
