The Dog in the Manger
Un chien égoïste découvre une mangeoire pleine de foin dans une étable et décide d'en faire son lit. Quand des animaux affamés arrivent pour chercher de la nourriture, le chien doit choisir entre partager et tout garder pour lui.
Un chien trouva une mangeoire pleine de foin.
A dog found a manger full of hay.
La mangeoire se trouvait dans une grange.
The manger was in a barn.
Le chien était fatigué, alors il s'allongea sur le foin moelleux pour dormir.
The dog was tired, so he lay down on the soft hay to sleep.
Bientôt, un bœuf arriva à la grange.
Soon, an ox came to the barn.
Le bœuf avait très faim.
The ox was very hungry.
Il voulait manger le foin.
He wanted to eat the hay.
Le bœuf dit,
The ox said,
« Veuillez vous écarter. »
"Please move."
Je veux manger ma nourriture.
"I want to eat my food."
Le chien se réveilla.
The dog woke up.
Il était en colère.
He was angry.
Non !
"No!"
dit le chien.
said the dog.
« C'est mon lit maintenant. »
"This is my bed now."
« Allez-vous-en ! »
"Go away!"
« Mais tu ne manges pas de foin, »
"But you don't eat hay,"
dit le bœuf.
said the ox.
« Tu manges de la viande et des os. »
"You eat meat and bones."
"Pourquoi ne puis-je pas avoir le foin ?"
"Why can't I have the hay?"
« Cela m'est égal, »
"I don't care,"
dit le chien.
said the dog.
« C'est à moi maintenant. »
"It's mine now."
Vous ne pouvez pas l'avoir.
"You cannot have it."
Le bœuf était triste et affamé.
The ox was sad and hungry.
Il dut partir sans aucune nourriture.
He had to leave without any food.
Le chien retourna dormir sur le foin.
The dog went back to sleep on the hay.
Il ne pouvait pas le manger, mais il ne voulait pas non plus laisser quelqu'un d'autre l'avoir.
He could not eat it, but he would not let anyone else have it either.
