Une cigale vivait dans un arbre.
A cicada lived in a tree.
Tout l'été, la cigale chanta des chansons joyeuses.
All summer, the cicada sang happy songs.
La cigale joua et s'amusa chaque jour.
The cicada played and had fun every day.
Une fourmi vivait près de l'arbre.
An ant lived near the tree.
La fourmi travailla dur tout l'été.
The ant worked hard all summer.
La fourmi porta de la nourriture à sa demeure.
The ant carried food to her home.
La fourmi conserva de la nourriture pour l'hiver.
The ant saved food for winter.
La cigale vit la fourmi qui travaillait.
The cicada saw the ant working.
« Pourquoi travailles-tu tant ? »
"Why do you work so much?"
demanda la cigale.
asked the cicada.
« Viens chanter avec moi ! »
"Come and sing with me!"
« L'été est magnifique ! »
"Summer is beautiful!"
La fourmi dit,
The ant said,
« Je dois travailler maintenant. »
"I must work now."
L'hiver arrive.
"Winter is coming."
J'ai besoin de nourriture pour les jours froids.
"I need food for the cold days."
La cigale rit.
The cicada laughed.
« L'hiver est bien loin ! »
"Winter is far away!"
« Je veux chanter et jouer maintenant. »
"I want to sing and play now."
L'été se termina.
Summer ended.
L'hiver vint.
Winter came.
Il faisait très froid.
It was very cold.
Il n'y avait de nourriture nulle part.
There was no food anywhere.
La cigale avait très faim.
The cicada was very hungry.
La cigale se rendit chez la fourmi.
The cicada went to the ant's home.
« Je vous en prie, aidez-moi »
"Please help me,"
dit la cigale.
said the cicada.
« Je n'ai pas de nourriture. »
"I have no food."
J'ai si faim.
"I am so hungry."
La fourmi regarda la cigale.
The ant looked at the cicada.
« Qu'as-tu fait tout l'été ? »
"What did you do all summer?"
demanda la fourmi.
asked the ant.
« J'ai chanté de belles chansons, »
"I sang beautiful songs,"
dit la cigale.
said the cicada.
La fourmi dit,
The ant said,
« Tu as chanté tout l'été. »
"You sang all summer."
« Maintenant tu peux danser tout l'hiver. »
"Now you can dance all winter."
La fourmi ferma sa porte.
The ant closed her door.
La cigale apprit que le temps de travail et le temps de jeu sont tous deux importants.
