Quando strane luci iniziano a cadere dal cielo ghiacciato della Siberia, un piccolo villaggio deve scoprire se questi misteriosi visitatori portano speranza o pericolo al loro mondo isolato. Mentre il fenomeno si intensifica ogni notte, gli abitanti del villaggio si rendono conto che potrebbero essere testimoni di qualcosa che cambierà per sempre le loro vite.
Masha era una ragazza che viveva in un piccolo villaggio della Siberia.
Masha was a young girl who lived in a small village in Siberia.
Amava guardare il cielo e sognare le stelle.
She loved to watch the sky and dream about the stars.
Ogni notte alzava lo sguardo verso la luna ed esprimeva desideri.
Every night, she looked up at the moon and made wishes.
Una mattina di giugno del 1908 accadde qualcosa di molto strano.
One morning in June 1908, something very strange happened.
Masha si svegliò presto per aiutare la nonna a dare da mangiare alle galline.
Masha woke up early to help her grandmother feed the chickens.
Il sole stava appena sorgendo.
The sun was just coming up.
Gli uccelli cantavano i loro canti del mattino.
The birds were singing their morning songs.
All'improvviso il cielo diventò molto luminoso.
Suddenly, the sky became very bright.
Era più luminoso del sole!
It was brighter than the sun!
Masha alzò gli occhi e vide una enorme palla di fuoco attraversare il cielo.
Masha looked up and saw a huge ball of fire moving across the sky.
Era più grande di qualsiasi cosa avesse mai visto.
It was bigger than anything she had ever seen.
La palla di fuoco era bianca, blu e arancione.
The fireball was white and blue and orange.
Si muoveva molto rapidamente.
It moved very fast.
Nonna!
"Grandmother!"
chiamò Masha.
Masha called.
Vieni subito!
"Come quickly!
Guarda il cielo!
Look at the sky!"
Sua nonna corse fuori.
Her grandmother ran outside.
Non aveva mai visto nulla di simile.
She had never seen anything like this before.
Anche gli altri del villaggio uscirono dalle loro case.
Other people in the village came out of their houses.
Tutti indicavano la strana luce nel cielo.
Everyone pointed at the strange light in the sky.
La palla di fuoco attraversò il cielo per molti secondi.
The fireball moved across the sky for many seconds.
Poi scomparve dietro gli alberi della foresta.
Then it disappeared behind the trees in the forest.
Per un momento tutto fu silenzioso.
For a moment, everything was quiet.
Gli uccelli smisero di cantare.
The birds stopped singing.
Perfino il vento smise di soffiare.
Even the wind stopped blowing.
Poi arrivò il rumore più forte che Masha avesse mai sentito.
Then came the loudest sound Masha had ever heard.
BUM!
BOOM!
Il terreno tremò sotto i suoi piedi.
The ground shook under her feet.
I vetri della sua casa si ruppero.
The windows in her house broke.
Le galline corsero ovunque.
The chickens ran everywhere.
Sua nonna cadde a terra.
Her grandmother fell down.

"What is happening?"
gridò Masha.
Masha cried.
Dal bosco arrivò un vento enorme.
A huge wind came from the forest.
Era così forte che abbatté gli alberi.
It was so strong that it knocked down trees.
Spazzò via il tetto della casa del loro vicino.
It blew away the roof of their neighbor's house.
Masha e sua nonna si abbracciarono forte.
Masha and her grandmother held onto each other tightly.
La strana mattina continuò per ore.
The strange morning continued for hours.
Sentirono altri rumori forti provenire da lontano.
They heard more loud sounds from far away.
Il cielo rimase luminoso anche se il sole era ancora basso.
The sky stayed bright even though the sun was still low.
Dal bosco si alzava fumo come una gigantesca nuvola grigia.
Smoke rose from the forest like a giant gray cloud.
Giorni dopo, gente della città arrivò al loro villaggio.
Days later, people from the city came to their village.
Fecero molte domande sulla luce intensa e sui rumori forti.
They asked many questions about the bright light and the loud sounds.
Volevano sapere cosa avesse visto e sentito ognuno.
They wanted to know what everyone saw and heard.
Era forse una stella caduta dal cielo?
"Was it a star that fell from heaven?"
chiese Masha.
asked Masha.
Forse," disse un uomo con un grande taccuino.
"Maybe," said one man with a big notebook.
O forse era una roccia dallo spazio.
"Or maybe it was a rock from space.
Noi chiamiamo queste rocce spaziali meteore.
We call these space rocks meteors."
L'uomo spiegò che la meteora era molto grande.
The man explained that the meteor was very big.
Quando entrò nell'aria della Terra si scaldò moltissimo.
When it hit the Earth's air, it got very hot.
Esplose in alto sopra la foresta.
It exploded high above the forest.
L'esplosione fu così potente da abbattere milioni di alberi.
The explosion was so powerful that it knocked down millions of trees.
Era come se esplodessero molte bombe allo stesso tempo.
It was like many bombs exploding at the same time.
Ma perché è arrivata fin qui?
"But why did it come here?"
chiese Masha.
asked Masha.
Le rocce spaziali volano ovunque," disse l'uomo.
"Space rocks fly everywhere," the man said.
La maggior parte è molto piccola.
"Most are very small.
Questa era speciale perché era così grande.
This one was special because it was so big.
È stata la più grande a colpire la Terra da moltissimi anni.
It was the biggest one to hit Earth in many, many years."
Masha scoprì che l'esplosione era avvenuta vicino al fiume Tunguska.
Masha learned that the explosion happened near the Tunguska River.
Persone in tutto il mondo sentirono la terra tremare.
People around the world felt the ground shake.
Alcune persone lontane videro luci brillanti nel cielo per giorni.
Some people far away saw bright lights in the sky for days.
Da quel giorno Masha ricordò sempre la mattina in cui il fuoco cadde dal cielo.
From that day, Masha always remembered the morning when fire fell from the sky.
Cominciò a interessarsi moltissimo allo spazio e alle stelle.
She became very interested in space and stars.
Capì che la Terra si muove sempre nello spazio e che a volte le rocce spaziali arrivano a visitarci in modi molto spettacolari.
She learned that Earth is always moving through space, and sometimes space rocks come to visit in very dramatic ways.
