Clever Elsie
Una joven llamada Elsie es conocida por ser muy inteligente, pero cuando va a buscar cerveza al sótano, su tendencia a pensar demasiado la lleva a consecuencias inesperadas. Su familia y amigos descubren que a veces ser demasiado inteligente puede causar más problemas de los que resuelve.

Her mother sends her to get beer from the basement.

Elsie baja las escaleras.
Elsie goes down the stairs.

She sees the beer barrel.
Pero entonces alza la mirada.
But then she looks up.

There is an old axe in the wall above the barrel.

"What if I get married?"

"What if he dies?"

She sits down and cries.

Tick-tock, tick-tock.
Pasa una hora.
One hour passes.
Pasan dos horas.
Two hours pass.
Madre va a buscar a Elsie.
Mother goes to find Elsie.
La encuentra llorando en el sótano.
She finds her crying in the basement.
"¡El hacha matará a mi futuro esposo!"
"The axe will kill my future husband!"
grita Elsie.
cries Elsie.
"¡Dios mío!"
"Oh my!"
dice Madre.
says Mother.
"¡Eres tan inteligente al pensar en esto!"
"You are so smart to think of this!"
Mamá también empieza a llorar.
Mother starts crying too.
Papá baja.
Father comes down.
"¿Por qué están llorando los dos?"
"Why are you both crying?"
Le cuentan sobre el hacha y el futuro esposo.
They tell him about the axe and the future husband.
¡Elsie es tan inteligente!
"Elsie is so clever!"
dice Papá.
says Father.
Él también empieza a llorar.
He starts crying too.
Hasta el vecino baja.
Even the neighbor comes down.
Pronto todos están llorando por el futuro esposo de Elsie y el hacha peligrosa.
Soon everyone is crying about Elsie's future husband and the dangerous axe.
