Un joven pescador sale al mar todos los días pero nunca pesca ningún pez. Una mañana, descubre algo inesperado en su red que lo cambia todo.
Un hombre pobre vivía junto al mar con su esposa.
A poor man lived by the sea with his wife.
Todos los días iba a pescar.
Every day he went fishing.
Pescaba solo los peces suficientes para comer.
He caught just enough fish to eat.
Un día pescó un pez grande.
One day he caught a big fish.
¡El pez podía hablar!
The fish could talk!
"Por favor, déjame ir,"
"Please let me go,"
dijo el pez.
said the fish.
"Soy mágico."
"I am magic."
"Te daré todo lo que desees."
"I will give you anything you want."
El hombre era bondadoso.
The man was kind.
Dejó que el pez regresara al mar.
He let the fish go back to the sea.
Se fue a casa y le contó a su esposa sobre el pez mágico.
He went home and told his wife about the magic fish.
¡Eres un tonto!
"You are stupid!"
dijo ella.
she said.
¡Regresa!
"Go back!"
"¡Pide una casa bonita!"
"Ask for a nice house!"
El hombre fue al mar.
The man went to the sea.
Llamó al pez mágico.
He called the magic fish.
El pez llegó.
The fish came.
"Mi esposa quiere una casa bonita,"
"My wife wants a nice house,"
dijo el hombre.
said the man.
"Vete a casa,"
"Go home,"
dijo el pez.
said the fish.
"Ahora tienes una casa bonita."
"You have a nice house now."
El hombre se fue a casa.
The man went home.
¡Había una casa hermosa!
There was a beautiful house!
Su esposa estaba feliz.
His wife was happy.
Pero después de una semana, ella quería más.
But after one week, she wanted more.
"Regresa con el pez,"
"Go back to the fish,"
dijo ella.
she said.
"¡Quiero ser rica!"
"I want to be rich!"
El hombre regresó.
The man went back.
Le preguntó al pez.
He asked the fish.
El pez les dio dinero y oro.
The fish gave them money and gold.
Pero la esposa quería más y más.
But the wife wanted more and more.
Quería ser reina.
She wanted to be a queen.
Entonces quiso ser como Dios. Cada vez, el hombre iba al mar.
Then she wanted to be like God. Each time, the man went to the sea.
Cada vez, el pez le dio lo que ella quería.
Each time, the fish gave her what she wanted.
Pero cuando ella quiso ser como Dios, el pez se enojó.
But when she wanted to be like God, the fish was angry.
¡Ella quiere demasiado!
"She wants too much!"
dijo el pez.
said the fish.
¡Vete a casa!
"Go home!"
El hombre se fue a casa.
The man went home.
La gran casa había desaparecido.
The big house was gone.
El dinero había desaparecido.
The money was gone.
Eran pobres de nuevo, viviendo en su antigua casa pequeña junto al mar.
They were poor again, living in their old small house by the sea.
Su esposa aprendió que desear demasiado no trae nada bueno.
His wife learned that wanting too much brings nothing good.
