There was a young boy who took care of sheep.

Every day, he watched the sheep on a hill near his village.

The boy was bored.
Quería divertirse un poco.
He wanted to have some fun.

So he had a bad idea.

"Help!"

gritó el muchacho.
the boy shouted.
¡Viene un lobo!
"A wolf is coming!"

"The wolf wants to eat my sheep!"
La gente del pueblo lo oyó.
The people in the village heard him.
Corrieron colina arriba para ayudar al muchacho.
They ran up the hill to help the boy.
Pero cuando llegaron allí, no vieron ningún lobo.
But when they got there, they saw no wolf.
El niño se estaba riendo.
The boy was laughing.
¡Solo estaba jugando!
"I was just playing!"
dijo el niño.
said the boy.
¡No hay lobo!
"There is no wolf!"
La gente estaba enfadada.
The people were angry.
Regresaron al pueblo.
They went back to the village.
Unos días después, el muchacho hizo lo mismo otra vez.
A few days later, the boy did the same thing again.
¡Socorro!
"Help!"

gritó.

¡Hay un lobo aquí!
"A wolf is here!"
¡Vengan rápido!
"Come quickly!"
Una vez más, la gente corrió colina arriba.
Again, the people ran up the hill.
Una vez más, no había lobo.
Again, there was no wolf.
El niño se reía otra vez.
The boy was laughing again.
¡Nos engañaste!
"You tricked us!"
dijo la gente.
said the people.
Estaban muy enfadados.
They were very angry.
Regresaron al pueblo.
They went back to the village.
Un día, un lobo verdadero llegó a la colina.
One day, a real wolf came to the hill.
El lobo era grande y hambriento.
The wolf was big and hungry.
Quería comerse a las ovejas.
It wanted to eat the sheep.
¡Socorro!
"Help!"

"A wolf is really here!"

"Please come and help me!"
Pero esta vez, nadie vino.
But this time, nobody came.
La gente del pueblo escuchó al muchacho, pero no le creyeron.
The people in the village heard the boy, but they did not believe him.
"Está mintiendo otra vez,"
"He is lying again,"
dijeron.
they said.
No iremos.
"We will not go."
El lobo se comió muchas de las ovejas.
The wolf ate many of the sheep.
El niño estaba muy triste y asustado.
The boy was very sad and scared.
Nadie le cree a un mentiroso, ni siquiera cuando dice la verdad.
Nobody believes a liar, even when they tell the truth.
