One day, Antonio's friend Bassanio needs money.

Also geht Antonio zu Shylock.

So Antonio goes to Shylock.

"Ich brauche dreitausend Dukaten,"

"I need three thousand coins,"

sagt Antonio. Shylock lächelt ein unheimliches Lächeln.

"Ich werde dir Geld geben."

"I will give you money."

"Aber wenn du mich nicht zurückzahlen kannst, will ich ein Pfund deines Fleisches."

"But if you cannot pay me back, I want one pound of your meat."

Antonio findet das seltsam.

Antonio thinks this is strange.

Aber er sagt ja.

Ich rolle in Shylocks Tasche herum.

Bassanio geht zu Portia.

Bassanio goes to see Portia.

Alle gehen vor Gericht.

Everyone goes to court.

Der Richter ist jung und klug.

The judge is young and smart.

But I know a secret.

Der Richter ist in Wahrheit Portia!

The judge is really Portia!

Sie kleidet sich wie ein Mann.

She dresses like a man.

"Shylock kann sein Fleisch haben,"

"Shylock can have his meat,"

sagt die falsche Richterin Portia.

says fake-judge Portia.

Aber er darf kein Blut nehmen.

"But he cannot take any blood."

"Und er muss genau ein Pfund schneiden."

"And he must cut exactly one pound."

Nicht mehr, nicht weniger.

"Not more, not less."

Das ist unmöglich!

Shylock kann es nicht tun.

"Nun müsst Ihr die Hälfte Eures Geldes an Antonio geben,"

"Now you must give half your money to Antonio,"

sagt Portia. Shylock ist sehr traurig.

Er geht mit leeren Taschen fort.

He leaves with empty pockets.

Ich gehe nicht mit ihm.

Später bittet Portia Bassanio um seinen Ring.

Later, Portia asks Bassanio for his ring.

Sie ist noch immer wie ein Mann gekleidet.

Bassanio hat Angst.

Bassanio is scared.

Doch dann lacht Portia.

But then Portia laughs.

Sie zeigt ihm den Ring.

She shows him the ring.

"I was the judge!"

Alle sind glücklich.

Everyone is happy.

Antonios Schiffe kehren sicher zurück.

Antonio's ships come back safely.

Er ist wieder reich.

He is rich again.

I learned something important.

Geld ist nicht alles.

Money is not everything.

Liebe und Freundschaft sind wertvoller als Gold.

Love and friendship are better than gold.
