The Four Oxen and the Lion
Vier ossen leefden vredig samen in een weide en bleven altijd dicht bij elkaar om zich tegen gevaar te beschermen. Een hongerige leeuw keek vanuit de buurt naar hen en wachtte op het perfecte moment om toe te slaan.
Vier ossen leefden in een weiland.
Four oxen lived in a field.
Ze waren de beste vrienden.
They were best friends.
Ze bleven altijd bij elkaar.
They always stayed together.
Ze aten samen gras.
They ate grass together.
Ze liepen samen.
They walked together.
Ze sliepen samen.
They slept together.
Een hongerige leeuw leefde nabij het veld.
A hungry lion lived near the field.
Hij wilde de ossen opeten.
He wanted to eat the oxen.
Maar de vier ossen stonden altijd dicht bij elkaar.
But the four oxen always stood close together.
Wanneer de leeuw naderbij kwam, richtten zij hun hoorns op hem.
When the lion came near, they pointed their horns at him.
De leeuw was bang voor hun scherpe hoorns.
The lion was afraid of their sharp horns.
Hij kon er geen van hen vangen.
He could not catch any of them.
De leeuw was zeer slim.
The lion was very smart.
Hij had een plan.
He had a plan.
Hij ging naar elke os wanneer de anderen er niet waren.
He went to each ox when the others were not there.
Hij vertelde leugens aan elke os over de andere ossen.
He told lies to each ox about the other oxen.
"Je vrienden zeggen slechte dingen over je,"
"Your friends say bad things about you,"
zei de leeuw tegen de eerste os.
the lion said to the first ox.
"Zij houden niet van je,"
"They do not like you,"
zei hij tegen de tweede os.
he told the second ox.
"Ze lachen je uit,"
"They laugh at you,"
zei hij tegen de derde os.
he said to the third ox.
"Ze willen je achterlaten,"
"They want to leave you,"
zei hij tegen de vierde os. De ossen geloofden de leugens van de leeuw.

Ze werden boos op elkaar.
They became angry with each other.
Ze hielden op met praten.
They stopped talking.
Ze stopten met samen eten.
They stopped eating together.
Ze gingen naar verschillende delen van het veld.
They went to different parts of the field.
Nu waren de ossen alleen.
Now the oxen were alone.
De leeuw was zeer verheugd.
The lion was very happy.
Hij ging naar de eerste os.
He went to the first ox.
De os was alleen.
The ox was alone.
Hij had geen vrienden om hem te helpen.
He had no friends to help him.
De leeuw ving hem gemakkelijk.
The lion caught him easily.
Toen ving de leeuw de tweede os.
Then the lion caught the second ox.
Toen de derde os.
Then the third ox.
Dan de vierde os.
Then the fourth ox.
Hij ving ze allemaal omdat ze alleen waren.
He caught them all because they were alone.
De ossen leerden te laat dat vrienden bij elkaar moeten blijven om veilig te zijn.
The oxen learned too late that friends must stay together to be safe.
