The Frogs Who Desired a King
Um grupo de sapos que vive pacificamente num lago decide que quer um rei para governá-los. Eles pedem aos deuses para lhes enviar um governante, mas talvez não gostem do que vão receber.
Há muito tempo, muitas rãs viviam num grande lago.
Long ago, many frogs lived in a big pond.
Eles eram felizes e livres.
They were happy and free.
Ninguém lhes dizia o que fazer. Um dia, as rãs conversaram entre si.
No one told them what to do. One day, the frogs talked together.
"Precisamos de um rei,"
"We need a king,"
disseram eles.
they said.
"Todos os animais deveriam ter um rei para governá-los."
"All animals should have a king to rule them."
As rãs pediram aos deuses um rei.
The frogs asked the gods for a king.
"Por favor, dai-nos um rei!"
"Please give us a king!"
disseram eles.
they said.
"Queremos alguém para nos liderar!"
"We want someone to lead us!"
Os deuses ouviram as rãs.
The gods heard the frogs.
Eles atiraram um grande tronco no lago.
They threw a big log into the pond.
SPLASH!
SPLASH!
O tronco fez um barulho alto.
The log made a loud noise.
As rãs ficaram assustadas.
The frogs were scared.
Elas se esconderam debaixo da água.
They hid under the water.
Nosso rei está aqui!
"Our king is here!"
sussurraram.
they whispered.
"Ele é tão poderoso!"
"He is so powerful!"
Mas depois de algum tempo, as rãs saíram.
But after some time, the frogs came out.
Elas olharam para o tronco.
They looked at the log.
Não se moveu.
It did not move.
Não falou.
It did not speak.
Apenas flutuava sobre a água.
It just floated on the water.
As rãs se tornaram corajosas.
The frogs became brave.
Elas saltaram sobre o tronco.
They jumped on the log.
Sentaram-se nele.
They sat on it.
Brincaram ao redor dele.
They played around it.
"Este rei não faz nada,"
"This king does nothing,"
disseram eles.
they said.
"Ele é chato!"
"He is boring!"
As rãs foram aos deuses novamente.
The frogs went to the gods again.
"Queremos um novo rei!"
"We want a new king!"
disseram eles.
they said.
"Deem-nos um rei de verdade!"
"Give us a real king!"
"Deem-nos um rei forte!"
"Give us a strong king!"
Os deuses estavam irados.
The gods were angry.
Desta vez, enviaram uma grande cegonha ao lago.
This time, they sent a big stork to the pond.
A cegonha era alta e forte.
The stork was tall and strong.
As rãs ficaram felizes no início.
The frogs were happy at first.
"Vejam o nosso novo rei!"
"Look at our new king!"
disseram eles.
they said.
"Ele é tão grande e belo!"
"He is so big and beautiful!"
Mas a cegonha estava faminta.
But the stork was hungry.
Ele começou a comer as rãs.
He began to eat the frogs.
Uma a uma, ele as apanhou com seu longo bico.
One by one, he caught them with his long beak.
As rãs ficaram muito assustadas.
The frogs were very scared.
Elas correram e se esconderam.
They ran and hid.
Ajudem-nos!
"Help us!"
eles clamaram aos deuses.
they cried to the gods.
"Nosso rei está nos devorando!"
"Our king is eating us!"
Mas os deuses disseram,
But the gods said,
"Pediste um rei."
"You asked for a king."
"Agora tens um."
"Now you have one."
"Você deve ficar com ele."
"You must keep him."
As rãs aprenderam que às vezes é melhor ser livre do que ter um mau governante.
The frogs learned that sometimes it is better to be free than to have a bad ruler.
