Anansi et les noix de cola
Anansi l'araignée avait très faim.
Anansi the spider was very hungry.
Il n'avait pas de nourriture chez lui.
He had no food at home.
Il marcha à travers la forêt à la recherche de quelque chose à manger.
He walked through the forest looking for something to eat.
Bientôt, Anansi aperçut un grand kolatier.
Soon, Anansi saw a big kola tree.
L'arbre avait de nombreuses noix dessus.
The tree had many nuts on it.
Les noix semblaient bonnes à manger.
The nuts looked good to eat.
Mais l'arbre était très haut.
But the tree was very tall.
Anansi ne pouvait pas grimper pour atteindre les noix.
Anansi could not climb up to get the nuts.
Anansi conçut un plan.
Anansi thought of a plan.
Il appela Éléphant.
He called to Elephant.
« Ami Éléphant, peux-tu m'aider ? »
"Friend Elephant, can you help me?"
« Je veux les noix de cola de cet arbre. »
"I want the kola nuts from this tree."
Tu es grand et fort.
"You are big and strong."
"Peux-tu secouer l'arbre pour moi ?"
"Can you shake the tree for me?"
L'Éléphant était bienveillant.
Elephant was kind.
Il poussa l'arbre de son grand corps.
He pushed the tree with his big body.
Il la secoua vigoureusement.
He shook it hard.
De nombreuses noix de cola tombèrent sur le sol.
Many kola nuts fell down to the ground.
« Merci, Éléphant, »
"Thank you, Elephant,"
dit Anansi.
said Anansi.
« Partageons ces noix. »
"Let us share these nuts."
« Prenez-en la moitié et j'en prendrai la moitié. »
"You take half and I will take half."
Mais Anansi était avide.
But Anansi was greedy.
Il ne voulait pas partager.
He did not want to share.
Quand Éléphant ne regardait pas, Anansi prit toutes les noix.
When Elephant was not looking, Anansi took all the nuts.
Il les mit dans son sac et s'enfuit.
He put them in his bag and ran away.
L'Éléphant revint et ne vit aucune noix sur le sol.
Elephant came back and saw no nuts on the ground.
Il était triste et en colère.
He was sad and angry.
Anansi l'avait dupé.
Anansi had tricked him.
Le lendemain, Anansi eut de nouveau faim.
The next day, Anansi was hungry again.
Il retourna au kolatier.
He went back to the kola tree.
Cette fois, il vit Singe dans l'arbre.
This time he saw Monkey in the tree.
« Ami Singe, »
"Friend Monkey,"
appela Anansi.
called Anansi.
Peux-tu m'aider ?
"Can you help me?"
« S'il vous plaît, jetez-moi quelques noix de cola. »
"Please throw down some kola nuts."
J'ai très faim.
"I am very hungry."
Le Singe était gentil aussi.
Monkey was kind too.
Il cueillit de nombreuses noix et les lança en bas à Anansi.
He picked many nuts and threw them down to Anansi.
« Merci, Singe, »
"Thank you, Monkey,"
dit Anansi.
said Anansi.
« Partageons ces noix ensemble. »
"Let us share these nuts together."
Mais encore une fois, Anansi était avide.
But again, Anansi was greedy.
Quand Singe descendit de l'arbre, toutes les noix avaient disparu.
When Monkey came down from the tree, all the nuts were gone.
Anansi les avait toutes prises et s'était enfui.
Anansi had taken them all and run away.
Le Singe était très en colère.
Monkey was very angry.
Il raconta à Éléphant ce qui s'était passé.
He told Elephant what happened.
Ils décidèrent de donner une leçon à Anansi.
They decided to teach Anansi a lesson.
Le lendemain, Éléphant et Singe attendirent près du colatier.
The next day, Elephant and Monkey waited by the kola tree.
Bientôt Anansi revint.
Soon Anansi came back.
Il avait de nouveau faim.
He was hungry again.
Mes amis !
"Friends!"
appela Anansi.
called Anansi.
« Peux-tu m'aider à obtenir plus de noix ? »
"Can you help me get more nuts?"
« Oui, »
"Yes,"
dit Éléphant.
said Elephant.
« Mais cette fois, nous partagerons les noix de manière équitable. »
"But this time, we will divide the nuts in a fair way."
L'Éléphant secoua l'arbre.
Elephant shook the tree.
Le singe ramassa les noix.
Monkey picked the nuts.
Ils firent trois tas de noix sur le sol.
They made three piles of nuts on the ground.
« Tiens, Anansi, »
"Here, Anansi,"
dit Singe.
said Monkey.
« Choisis ta pile en premier. »
"Choose your pile first."
Anansi regarda les trois tas.
Anansi looked at the three piles.
Il voulait le plus gros tas.
He wanted the biggest pile.
Il le désigna rapidement.
He pointed to it quickly.
« Je choisis celui-ci »,
"I choose this one,"
dit Anansi. Mais quand Anansi ouvrit son tas, il ne trouva que des coquilles vides.
said Anansi. But when Anansi opened his pile, he found only empty shells.
Toutes les bonnes noix se trouvaient dans les deux autres tas.
All the good nuts were in the other two piles.
Éléphant et Singe rirent.
Elephant and Monkey laughed.
« Voilà ce qui arrive quand on est cupide, Anansi. »
"This is what happens when you are greedy, Anansi."
« Tu nous as trompés auparavant. »
"You tricked us before."
Maintenant tu n'auras rien.
"Now you get nothing."
Anansi eut honte.
Anansi felt ashamed.
Il apprit qu'être avide et tromper ses amis était mal.
He learned that being greedy and tricking friends was wrong.
À partir de ce jour, Anansi partagea toujours équitablement avec les autres.
From that day, Anansi always shared fairly with others.
