Il y a longtemps, vivait une araignée nommée Anansi.

Long ago, there lived a spider named Anansi.

Il était très malin et savait beaucoup de choses.

He was very clever and knew many things.

Un jour, Anansi trouva toute la sagesse du monde.

One day, Anansi found all the wisdom in the world.

Il la mit dans un grand pot d'argile.

He put it in a big clay pot.

« Maintenant, je suis le plus intelligent ! »

"Now I am the smartest!"

dit-il.

he said.

« Je garderai toute cette sagesse pour moi. »

"I will keep all this wisdom for myself."

Anansi voulait cacher le pot là où personne ne pourrait le trouver.

Anansi wanted to hide the pot where no one could find it.

Il regarda autour de lui et vit un arbre très haut.

He looked around and saw a very tall tree.

« Je placerai le pot au sommet de cet arbre, »

"I will put the pot at the top of this tree,"

pensa-t-il.

Anansi noua une corde autour du pot.

Anansi tied a rope around the pot.

Puis il attacha le pot à son ventre.

Then he tied the pot to his belly.

Il commença à grimper à l'arbre.

He began to climb the tree.

Mais le pot était gros et lourd.

But the pot was big and heavy.

Il ne cessait de heurter l'arbre.

It kept hitting the tree.

Anansi ne pouvait pas bien grimper.

Anansi could not climb well.

Son jeune fils regardait.

His young son was watching.

« Papa, »

"Father,"

appela le garçon,

called the boy,

« pourquoi n'attaches-tu pas le pot à ton dos ? »

"why don't you tie the pot to your back?"

Ainsi tu pourras mieux grimper.

"Then you can climb better."

Anansi s'arrêta.

Anansi stopped.

Son fils avait raison !

His son was right!

L'idée du garçon était très intelligente.

The boy's idea was very smart.

Mais Anansi était confus.

But Anansi was confused.

« J'ai toute la sagesse dans ce pot, »

"I have all the wisdom in this pot,"

pensa-t-il.

Anansi regarda le pot.

Anansi se mit en colère contre lui-même.

Anansi became angry at himself.

Il avait été sot.

He had been foolish.

Dans sa colère, il jeta le pot du haut de l'arbre.

In his anger, he threw the pot down from the tree.

Le pot se brisa en de nombreux morceaux.

The pot broke into many pieces.

Toute la sagesse s'envola.

All the wisdom flew out.

Le vent porta la sagesse tout autour du monde.

The wind carried the wisdom all around the world.

Elle parvint à chaque personne, chaque animal, et chaque lieu.

It went to every person, every animal, and every place.

C'est pourquoi aujourd'hui, chacun possède un peu de sagesse.

That is why today, everyone has some wisdom.

Aucune personne ne peut posséder toute la sagesse du monde.

No one person can have all the wisdom in the world.

Nous avons tous quelque chose à apprendre les uns des autres.
