Il y a longtemps, vivait une araignée nommée Anansi.

Long ago, there lived a spider named Anansi.

Il était très malin mais aussi très avide.

He was very clever but also very greedy.

Dans le village, vivait une vieille femme.

In the village, there lived an old woman.

On l'appelait la Gardienne de la Bonté.

She was called the Kindness Keeper.

Elle avait un chaudron magique.

She had a magic pot.

Ce pot était rempli de toute la bonté du monde.

This pot was full of all the kindness in the world.

Chaque jour, la vieille femme partageait sa bonté avec tous.

Every day, the old woman shared kindness with everyone.

Elle aidait les gens quand ils étaient tristes.

She helped people when they were sad.

Elle donnait de la nourriture aux enfants affamés.

She gave food to hungry children.

Elle soigna les animaux malades.

She took care of sick animals.

Anansi observait la vieille femme.

Anansi watched the old woman.

Il voulait le pot magique pour lui-même.

He wanted the magic pot for himself.

« Si j'ai toute la bonté, »

« les gens n'aimeront que moi. »

Une nuit, Anansi se rendit chez la vieille femme.

Il prit le chaudron magique et s'enfuit.

Anansi grimpa dans un grand arbre.

Il voulait cacher le pot au sommet.

Anansi ne pouvait pas bien grimper avec le pot.

Anansi could not climb well with the pot.

Il essaya de nombreuses fois.

He tried many times.

Chaque fois, il tombait.

Each time, he fell down.

Le pot était trop gros pour être transporté dans l'arbre.

The pot was too big to carry up the tree.

Un petit garçon vit Anansi.

A little boy saw Anansi.

« Pourquoi ne pas attacher le pot à ton dos ? »

"Why don't you tie the pot to your back?"

dit le garçon.

said the boy.

« Alors tu pourras utiliser tes deux mains pour grimper. »

"Then you can use both hands to climb."

Anansi était en colère.

Anansi was angry.

« Un petit enfant est plus intelligent que moi ! »

"A small child is smarter than me!"

s'écria-t-il.

« Si tout le monde est si intelligent, pourquoi ai-je besoin de toute cette bonté ? »

"If everyone is so smart, why do I need all this kindness?"

Anansi jeta le pot du haut de l'arbre.

Anansi threw the pot down from the tree.

Le pot se brisa en de nombreux morceaux.

The pot broke into many pieces.

Toute la bonté s'envola comme de petites étoiles.

All the kindness flew out like little stars.

Les fragments de bonté se répandirent partout.

The kindness pieces went everywhere.

Ils pénétrèrent dans les cœurs des gens.

They went into people's hearts.

Ils entrèrent dans les animaux.

They went into animals.

Ils entrèrent dans les plantes et les arbres.

They went into plants and trees.

Désormais la bonté était partout dans le monde.

Elle n'était plus en un seul endroit.

La vieille femme se réveilla.

Anansi apprit quelque chose ce jour-là.

La bonté est meilleure quand chacun la partage.

Quand nous donnons de la bienveillance aux autres, nous recevons de la bienveillance en retour.

When we give kindness to others, we get kindness back.

À partir de ce jour, Anansi essaya d'être gentil lui aussi.

From that day, Anansi tried to be kind too.

Il aida les autres araignées.

He helped other spiders.

Il partageait sa nourriture.

He shared his food.

Il apprit que partager la bonté le rendait heureux.

He learned that sharing kindness made him happy.

Et c'est pourquoi la bonté est partout dans le monde aujourd'hui.
