Anansi e o Metamorfo

Anansi, a aranha, vivia numa pequena aldeia.

Anansi the spider lived in a small village.

Ele era muito esperto, mas às vezes preguiçoso.

He was very clever but sometimes lazy.

Estava sempre à procura de maneiras fáceis de arranjar comida.

He always looked for easy ways to get food.

Certo dia, um homem estranho chegou à aldeia.

One day, a strange man came to the village.

Esse homem podia transformar-se em qualquer animal que quisesse.

This man could change into any animal he wanted.

As pessoas o chamavam de Metamorfo. O Metamorfo era maldoso.

The people called him the Shapeshifter. The Shapeshifter was mean.

Transformava-se num grande leão para assustar as pessoas.

He would change into a big lion to scare people.

Depois pegava a comida e o dinheiro deles.

Then he would take their food and money.

Todos ficaram com medo.

All the people were afraid.

Pediram ajuda a Anansi.

They asked Anansi to help them.

“Vou impedir esse homem mau,”

"I will stop this bad man,"

disse Anansi.

said Anansi.

“Mas preciso pensar num bom plano.”

"But I need to think of a good plan."

Anansi observou o Metamorfo por muitos dias.

Anansi watched the Shapeshifter for many days.

Percebeu que o homem era muito orgulhoso.

He saw that the man was very proud.

Gostava de exibir seus poderes mágicos.

He liked to show off his magic powers.

Anansi teve uma ideia.

Anansi had an idea.

Foi até o Metamorfo.

He went to the Shapeshifter.

“Olá,”

"Hello,"

disse Anansi.

said Anansi.

“Ouvi dizer que você pode virar qualquer animal.”

"I heard you can change into any animal."

“Isso é verdade?”

"Is this true?"

“Sim!”

"Yes!"

disse o Metamorfo.

said the Shapeshifter.

“Eu sou o melhor!”

"I am the best!"

“Veja só!”

"Watch me!"

O Metamorfo virou um grande elefante.

The Shapeshifter changed into a big elephant.

Depois virou um cavalo veloz.

Then he became a fast horse.

Em seguida virou uma cobra assustadora.

Then he turned into a scary snake.

“Muito bem,”

"Very good,"

disse Anansi.

said Anansi.

“Mas consegue virar animais bem pequenos também?”

"But can you become very small animals too?"

“Claro!”

"Of course!"

disse o Metamorfo.

said the Shapeshifter.

“Posso ser qualquer coisa!”

"I can be anything!"

Transformou-se num passarinho.

He changed into a small bird.

Depois virou um ratinho.

Then he became a tiny mouse.

“Incrível!”

"Amazing!"

disse Anansi.

said Anansi.

“Mas acho que há uma coisa que você não consegue.”

"But I think there is one thing you cannot do."

“O quê?”

"What?"

perguntou o Metamorfo.

asked the Shapeshifter.

“Eu posso tudo!”

"I can do everything!"

“Consegue ficar do tamanho de uma aranha?”

"Can you become as small as a spider?"

perguntou Anansi.

asked Anansi.

“Fácil!”

"Easy!"

disse o Metamorfo.

said the Shapeshifter.

Ficou cada vez menor até virar uma minúscula aranha.

He became smaller and smaller until he was a tiny spider.

Rapidamente, Anansi pegou um potinho.

Quickly, Anansi took out a small jar.

Prendeu a minúscula aranha lá dentro e fechou bem a tampa.

He caught the tiny spider inside and closed the lid tight.

“Deixa-me sair!”

"Let me out!"

gritou o Metamorfo de dentro do pote.

cried the Shapeshifter from inside the jar.

“Não,”

"No,"

disse Anansi.

said Anansi.

“Você foi cruel com o meu povo.”

"You were mean to my people."

“Agora você vai ficar neste pote.”

"Now you must stay in this jar."

Anansi levou o pote bem longe da aldeia.

Anansi took the jar far away from the village.

Escondeu-o sob uma grande rocha onde ninguém o encontraria. A aldeia ficou segura outra vez.

He put it under a big rock where no one could find it. The village was safe again.

As pessoas agradeceram a Anansi por ser tão inteligente e corajoso.

The people thanked Anansi for being so smart and brave.

Desde então, todos lembraram que ser orgulhoso demais pode trazer problemas.

From that day, everyone remembered that being too proud can get you into trouble.

E às vezes, a menor aranha consegue capturar o maior inimigo.

And sometimes, the smallest spider can catch the biggest enemy.
