His mouth watered when he saw all the good food.

Mas Anansi era pequeno e fraco demais para pegar a comida.

But Anansi was too small and weak to take the food.

O gigante era muito forte e sempre vigiava seu jardim.

The giant was very strong and always watched his garden.

Um dia, Anansi teve uma ideia.

One day, Anansi had an idea.

Ele enganaria o gigante.

He would trick the giant.

Anansi foi até o gigante e disse,

Anansi went to the giant and said,

"Olá, amigo!"

"Hello, friend!"

"Seu jardim é tão belo."

"Your garden is so beautiful."

"But I think my garden is better than yours."

O gigante riu.

"Your garden?"

"You don't have a garden!"

"You are too lazy to grow anything!"

Anansi sorriu.

Anansi smiled.

"Ah, mas eu tenho um jardim, sim."

"Oh, but I do have a garden."

"Está escondido na floresta."

"It is hidden in the forest."

"Os meus legumes são maiores e mais doces que os teus."

"My vegetables are bigger and sweeter than yours."

"Vamos fazer uma competição."

"Let's have a contest."

"We will both bring our best vegetables tomorrow."

"O vencedor fica com toda a comida."

"The winner gets to keep all the food."

O gigante concordou.

The giant agreed.

Naquela noite, Anansi esgueirou-se para o jardim do gigante.

That night, Anansi snuck into the giant's garden.

Ele pegou os maiores e melhores vegetais.

He took the biggest and best vegetables.

Ele os escondeu na floresta.

He hid them in the forest.

No dia seguinte, o gigante trouxe seus legumes.

The next day, the giant brought his vegetables.

Anansi trouxe os vegetais que havia roubado do jardim do gigante.

Anansi brought the vegetables he had stolen from the giant's garden.

"Olhem os meus legumes!"

"Look at my vegetables!"

disse Anansi.

He ran away and hid in a tiny hole where the giant could not reach him.

A partir daquele dia, o gigante vigiou seu jardim com muito cuidado.

From that day on, the giant watched his garden very carefully.

E Anansi aprendeu que ser esperto é bom, mas roubar é errado.

And Anansi learned that being clever is good, but stealing is wrong.

Ele decidiu plantar seu próprio pequeno jardim e trabalhar arduamente para cultivar seu próprio alimento.

He decided to plant his own small garden and work hard to grow his own food.
