Anansi e o Guardião da Honra

Há muito tempo vivia uma aranha chamada Anansi.

Long ago, there lived a spider named Anansi.

Ele era muito esperto, mas também muito ganancioso.

He was very clever but also very greedy.

Anansi sempre queria mais do que tinha.

Anansi always wanted more than he had.

Um dia, Anansi ouviu falar de uma árvore mágica.

One day, Anansi heard about a magic tree.

Essa árvore tinha frutos dourados que podiam tornar muito sábio quem os comesse.

This tree had golden fruits that could make anyone who ate them very wise.

Mas a árvore tinha um guardião – um leão grande e forte que a protegia. O leão era chamado de Guardião da Honra.

But the tree had a guardian - a big, strong lion who protected it. The lion was called the Honor Guardian.

Ele só entregava os frutos dourados a pessoas honestas e bondosas.

He only gave the golden fruits to people who were honest and good.

Anansi queria muito esses frutos.

Anansi wanted these fruits very much.

Anansi foi até a árvore mágica.

Anansi went to the magic tree.

Ele viu os belos frutos dourados pendurados nos galhos.

He saw the beautiful golden fruits hanging from the branches.

O Guardião da Honra estava sentado debaixo da árvore.

The Honor Guardian was sitting under the tree.

Olá, Leão,

"Hello, Lion,"

disse Anansi.

Sou uma aranha pobre.

"I am a poor spider."

Não tenho comida.

"I have no food."

Você pode me dar um fruto dourado?

"Can you give me one golden fruit?"

O Guardião da Honra olhou para Anansi.

The Honor Guardian looked at Anansi.

Vou te dar uma fruta se me disser a verdade.

"I will give you one fruit if you tell me the truth."

Você está mesmo com fome?

"Are you really hungry?"

Anansi pensou em contar uma mentira.

Anansi thought about lying.

A barriga dele ainda estava cheia do café da manhã.

His belly was full from breakfast.

Mas ele queria muito o fruto mágico.

But he really wanted the magic fruit.

Sim, estou morrendo de fome,

"Yes, I am very hungry,"

mentiu Anansi.

Anansi lied.

Os olhos do Guardião da Honra entristeceram.

The Honor Guardian's eyes became sad.

Eu sei que você não está dizendo a verdade, Anansi.

"I know you are not telling the truth, Anansi."

Você comeu hoje de manhã.

"You ate this morning."

Não posso dar frutas a gente que mente.

"I cannot give fruits to people who lie."

Anansi ficou envergonhado.

Anansi felt ashamed.

Tinham pego sua mentira.

disse Anansi.
