For many days, Anansi visited the cave.
He talked to the echo.
The echo always agreed with everything he said.
This made Anansi feel very important.
Anansi told all the forest animals about his new friend.
"I have a friend who thinks I am wonderful,"
he said.
"This friend agrees with everything I say."
The wise old owl knew about echoes.
She decided to teach Anansi a lesson.

The echo could not really think or have opinions.
From that day, Anansi learned an important lesson.
Real friends do not always agree with you.
They tell you the truth, even when it is hard to hear.
And being proud and boastful does not make you smart or important.
