The Hare and His Ears A hare lived in the forest.

Ele tinha orelhas muito compridas.

He had very long ears.

A lebre não gostava de suas orelhas.

The hare did not like his ears.

Ele achava que eram grandes demais e feias.

He thought they were too big and ugly.

Um dia, o rei de todos os animais criou uma nova regra.

One day, the king of all animals made a new rule.

O rei disse,

The king said,

"Todos os animais com chifres devem deixar a floresta."

"All animals with horns must leave the forest."

"Eles são perigosos demais."

"They are too dangerous."

A lebre ouviu essa notícia.

The hare heard this news.

Ele olhou para o seu reflexo na água.

He looked at his reflection in the water.

Ele viu suas longas orelhas erguidas bem alto.

He saw his long ears standing up high.

Ah, não!

"Oh no!"

disse a lebre.

"O rei vai me mandar embora!"

A lebre estava muito assustada.

An old rabbit saw the hare crying.

"Por que estás triste?"

"Why are you sad?"

perguntou o coelho.

"My ears are too long,"

disse a lebre.

"Parecem chifres."

"They look like horns."

O rei me fará partir.

"The king will make me leave."

O velho coelho sorriu.

The old rabbit smiled.

"Suas orelhas não são chifres,"

"Your ears are not horns,"

disse ele.

"Os chifres são duros e afiados."

"Horns are hard and sharp."

"Suas orelhas são macias."

"Your ears are soft."

"Elas te ajudam a ouvir o perigo se aproximando."

"They help you hear danger coming."

"Os seus ouvidos mantêm-no em segurança."

"Your ears keep you safe."

A lebre escutou o coelho sábio.

The hare listened to the wise rabbit.
