A Aventura de Maya com a Lanterna do Dragão

Maya amava novembro.

Maya loved November.

O ar estava frio e cortante.

The air was cold and crisp.

As folhas estavam alaranjadas e vermelhas.

The leaves were orange and red.

Mas, acima de tudo, ela adorava fazer lanternas com a sua avó.

But most of all, she loved making lanterns with her grandmother.

"Hoje fazemos mágica", disse a Vovó com um sorriso.

"Today we make magic," Grandma said with a smile.

Ela colocou papel colorido sobre a mesa da cozinha.

Os olhos de Maya se arregalaram.

"Que tipo de magia?"

"What kind of magic?"

"A magia de São Martinho," respondeu a Vovó.

She placed a small, safe candle in the dragon's belly.

Quando ela a acendeu, o dragão brilhou como fogo.

When she lit it, the dragon glowed like fire.

"It's alive!"

Maya gritou de alegria.

Maya shouted with joy.

Naquela noite, Maya vestiu seu casaco mais quente.

That evening, Maya put on her warmest coat.

Ela levou sua lanterna de dragão para fora.

A rua estava cheia de crianças.

Eles caminharam pelo parque.

They walked through the park.

Eles passaram pelas lojas.

They walked past the shops.

Eles caminharam à beira do rio.

They walked by the river.

Por onde quer que fossem, as pessoas saíam para observar.

Everywhere they went, people came outside to watch.

Os idosos sorriram.

Old people smiled.

Os bebês apontaram para as luzes bonitas.

Babies pointed at the pretty lights.

Os cães abanaram o rabo.

Dogs wagged their tails.

No final da caminhada, todas as crianças ficaram em pé formando um grande círculo.

At the end of their walk, all the children stood in a big circle.

Eles ergueram suas lanternas bem alto no ar.

They held their lanterns high in the air.

As luzes dançavam no vento como pequenos sóis.

The lights danced in the wind like tiny suns.

"Faça um pedido", sussurrou a vovó para Maya.

"Make a wish," Grandma whispered to Maya.

Maya fechou os olhos.

Maya closed her eyes.

Ela desejou que todas as pessoas do mundo pudessem se sentir tão felizes e acolhidas quanto ela se sentia naquele momento.

She wished that everyone in the world could feel as happy and warm as she felt right now.
