The Dog and the Shadow
Голодний пес знаходить смачний шматок м’яса й весело несе його через місток, але, зазирнувши у воду, бачить щось, що розпалює жадібність.
Пес знайшов великий шматок м’яса.
A dog found a big piece of meat.
Він був дуже щасливий.
He was very happy.
Він підняв м’ясо пащею й рушив додому.
He picked up the meat with his mouth and started to walk home.
Дорогою додому псові треба було перейти маленький місток через річку.
On his way home, the dog had to cross a small bridge over a river.
Коли він глянув у воду, то побачив іншого пса.
When he looked down into the water, he saw another dog.
Той інший пес теж тримав у пащі шматок м’яса.
This other dog also had a piece of meat in his mouth.
Пес подумав:
The dog thought,
«М’ясо того пса виглядає більшим за моє!»
"That dog's meat looks bigger than mine!"
«Я теж хочу те м’ясо!»
"I want that meat too!"
Пес розкрив пащу, щоб загавкати на іншого пса у воді.
The dog opened his mouth to bark at the other dog in the water.
Коли він відкрив пащу, його шматок м’яса впав у річку й зник.
When he opened his mouth, his piece of meat fell into the river and was gone.
Тепер у пса зовсім не залишилося м’яса.
Now the dog had no meat at all.
Він дуже засмутився.
He was very sad.
Інший пес у воді був лише його тінню.
The other dog in the water was just his shadow.
Ніякого іншого пса й ніякого іншого м’яса не було.
There was no other dog and no other meat.
Пес зрозумів, що жадібність може змусити втратити те, що вже маєш.
The dog learned that being greedy can make you lose what you already have.
