The Dog & His Reflection
Голодний пес знаходить смачний шматок м’яса, але жадібність змушує його втратити здобич. Байка нагадує: бажаючи надто багато, можна втратити навіть те, що вже маєш.
Пес знайшов великий шматок м’яса.
A dog found a big piece of meat.
Він дуже зрадів.
He was very happy.
Узяв м’ясо в пащу й рушив додому.
He picked up the meat with his mouth and started to go home.
Дорогою пес мав перейти маленький міст через річку.
On his way home, the dog had to cross a small bridge over a river.
Заглянувши у воду, він побачив іншого пса.
When he looked down into the water, he saw another dog.
У того також у пащі був шматок м’яса.
This other dog also had a piece of meat in his mouth.
Пес подумав: «У того теж м’ясо!
The dog thought, "That dog has meat too!
Його шматок більший за мій.
His meat looks bigger than mine.
Хочу його м’ясо!» Пес роззявив пащу, щоб гавкнути на іншого пса.
I want his meat!" The dog opened his mouth to bark at the other dog.
Він хотів забрати чужий шматок.
He wanted to take the other dog's meat.
Але щойно відкрив рота, його власне м’ясо впало у воду.
But when he opened his mouth, his own piece of meat fell into the water.
Шматок потонув у річці.
The meat sank down into the river.
Пес уже не зміг його дістати.
The dog could not get it back.
Тепер у пса зовсім не було м’яса.
Now the dog had no meat at all.
Йому стало дуже сумно.
He was very sad.
Інший пес у воді теж зник.
The other dog in the water was gone too.
Пес збагнув, що то було лише його відображення.
The dog learned that the other dog was just his reflection in the water.
Ніякого іншого пса не існувало.
There was no other dog.
Не було й іншого шматка м’яса.
There was no other piece of meat.
Пес повернувся додому голодним, бо захотів надто багато.
The dog went home hungry because he wanted too much.
