The Fox and the Horse

An old horse loses his strength and faces an uncertain future when his master no longer needs him. A clever fox offers to help, but will his plan work?

I am a red fox.

I have a big problem today.

My friend Thunder is sad.

Thunder is a big brown horse.

He is very old now.

His owner does not want him anymore.

"I am too slow,"

Thunder says.

"I cannot work on the farm."

"My owner will send me away."

I think hard.

I want to help my friend.

"I have an idea!"

I say.

"Trust me."

I run to the forest.

I find a big lion sleeping under a tree.

The lion is very scary, but I am brave.

I tie a rope around the lion's leg.

I tie the other end to a tree.

The lion wakes up.

He is very angry!

"ROAR!"

"Who did this?"

the lion shouts.

I run back to Thunder.

"Come with me!"

"Run as fast as you can!"

Thunder follows me to the forest.

The lion sees us.

He tries to catch us, but the rope stops him.

"Help me!"

I shout to Thunder.

"Only you are strong enough!"

Thunder kicks the rope with his strong legs.

SNAP!

The rope breaks.

The lion is free.

"Thank you, horse!"

says the lion.

"You saved me."

"I will not forget this."

The lion runs away.

Thunder and I go home.

The next day, the lion visits Thunder's farm.

All the people are scared.

"Where is the brave horse?"

asks the lion.

"I want to thank him again."

Thunder's owner is very surprised.

"My horse is brave?"

"My horse saved you?"

"Yes!"

says the lion.

"This horse is a hero!"

Now Thunder's owner thinks Thunder is special.

Thunder can stay on the farm forever.

Thunder is happy.

I am happy too.

Sometimes old friends just need new stories.
