The jar had a small opening at the top.
The boy put his hand inside the jar.
He grabbed as many nuts as he could hold.
Maintenant sa main était pleine de noix.
Now his hand was full of nuts.
But his hand was too big to come out of the jar.
Le garçon essaya de retirer sa main.
The boy tried to pull his hand out.
Il n'y arrivait pas.
He could not do it.
Sa main était bloquée.
His hand was stuck.
Le garçon se mit à pleurer.
The boy started to cry.
He wanted the nuts, but he also wanted his hand free.
Un vieil homme passa.
An old man walked by.
Il vit le garçon qui pleurait.
He saw the boy crying.
Qu'est-ce qui ne va pas ?
"What is wrong?"
demanda le vieil homme.
asked the old man.
« Ma main est coincée dans ce bocal, »
"My hand is stuck in this jar,"
dit le garçon.
said the boy.
Le vieil homme regarda le bocal.
The old man looked at the jar.
Il regarda la main du garçon.
He looked at the boy's hand.
« Lâche la moitié des noix »,
"Let go of half the nuts,"
dit le vieil homme.
said the old man.
Alors ta main ressortira.
"Then your hand will come out."
The boy did not want to let go of the nuts.
But finally, he dropped half of them.
Sa main devint plus petite.
His hand became smaller.
Now he could pull his hand out of the jar.
Le garçon était libre.
The boy was free.
Il lui restait encore quelques noix à manger.
He still had some nuts to eat.
