All the yams were gone!

Les collines étaient vides.

« Où sont mes ignames ? »

"Where are my yams?"

cria Anansi. Une voix vint du ciel.

C'était le Dieu du Ciel.

« Anansi, tu n'as pas planté ces ignames. »

Tu ne les as pas arrosées.

Tu ne les as pas cultivées.

"You did not work for them."

Alors ils ne sont pas à toi.

"So they are not yours."

« Mais j'étais si malin ! »

"But I was so clever!"

dit Anansi.

Les ignames sont retournées aux gens qui ont vraiment travaillé pour elles.

Anansi apprit ce jour-là que la ruse sans travail acharné et honnêteté n'apporte rien de bon.

À partir de ce jour-là, Anansi dut travailler pour sa propre nourriture comme tout le monde.
