disse Anansi.

"Essas ervilhas parecem maravilhosas."

"Those peas look wonderful."

"Posso comer algumas?"

"May I have some?"

disse Coelho.

said Rabbit.

"Mas primeiro você deve me ajudar a trabalhar."

"But you must help me work first."

"Então poderemos dividir as ervilhas."

"Then we can share the peas."

Anansi não queria trabalhar.

Anansi did not want to work.

Ele era preguiçoso.

He was lazy.

Mas ele estava com muita fome, então disse que sim.

But he was very hungry, so he said yes.

Coelho deu a Anansi uma cesta grande.

Rabbit gave Anansi a big basket.

"Colha todas as ervilhas e coloque-as nesta cesta,"

"Pick all the peas and put them in this basket,"

disse Coelho.

Anansi começou a colher ervilhas.

Logo Anansi estava comendo ervilhas muito rapidamente.

Ele não conseguia parar.

He could not stop.

As ervilhas eram mágicas.

The peas were magic.

Quanto mais Anansi comia, maior ficava sua barriga.

The more Anansi ate, the bigger his belly got.

Sua barriga ficou redonda como uma bola.

His belly grew round like a ball.

Mas Anansi continuou comendo.

But Anansi kept eating.

Quando Coelho voltou, ele viu Anansi.

When Rabbit came back, he saw Anansi.

A barriga de Anansi estava tão grande que ele não conseguia se mover.

Anansi's belly was so big he could not move.

A cesta estava quase vazia.

The basket was almost empty.

Anansi!

"Anansi!"

disse Coelho.

said Rabbit.

"Você comeu todas as minhas ervilhas!"

"You ate all my peas!"

"Você não fez o trabalho!"

"You did not do the work!"

Anansi tentou fugir, mas sua barriga estava grande demais.

Anansi tried to run away, but his belly was too big.

Ele rolou pelo chão como uma bola.

He rolled on the ground like a ball.

"Socorro, Coelho!"

"Help me, Rabbit!"

gritou Anansi.

"Estou cheio demais!"

"I am too full!"

"Isso é o que acontece quando você é ganancioso e preguiçoso,"

"This is what happens when you are greedy and lazy,"

disse Coelho.

said Rabbit.

"Você deve aprender a trabalhar antes de comer."

Anansi rolou todo o caminho até em casa.

Anansi rolled all the way home.

Ele aprendeu a lição.

A partir daquele dia, Anansi sempre trabalhava antes de comer.
