Le Chien, le Coq et le Renard
Un chien et un coq étaient de bons amis.
A dog and a rooster were good friends.
Ils vivaient ensemble et voyageaient ensemble.
They lived together and traveled together.
Une nuit, ils s'arrêtèrent pour dormir dans la forêt.
One night, they stopped to sleep in the forest.
Le coq s'envola vers un grand arbre.
The rooster flew up into a tall tree.
Le chien dormait sous l'arbre.
The dog slept under the tree.
Le matin, le coq chanta son chant puissant.
In the morning, the rooster sang his loud song.
Cocorico !
"Cock-a-doodle-doo!"
Un renard affamé entendit le coq chanter.
A hungry fox heard the rooster singing.
Le renard vint à l'arbre.
The fox came to the tree.
Il leva les yeux vers le coq.
He looked up at the rooster.
« Bonjour, beau coq ! »
"Good morning, beautiful rooster!"
dit le renard.
said the fox.
« Vous avez une si belle voix ! »
"You have such a wonderful voice!"
« Descends, je t'en prie, que je puisse mieux te voir. »
"Please come down so I can see you better."
Le coq était intelligent.
The rooster was smart.
Il savait que le renard voulait le manger.
He knew the fox wanted to eat him.
« Merci »,
"Thank you,"
dit le coq.
said the rooster.
« Je descendrai bientôt. »
"I will come down soon."
"Mais d'abord, réveillez mon ami, s'il vous plaît."
"But first, please wake up my friend."
Il dort sous l'arbre.
"He is sleeping under the tree."
Le renard était excité.
The fox was excited.
Il pensait qu'il aurait deux repas !
He thought he would get two meals!
Il courut au pied de l'arbre pour réveiller le chien.
He ran to the bottom of the tree to wake up the dog.
Mais quand le renard s'approcha, le gros chien bondit.
But when the fox came close, the big dog jumped up.
Le chien était très en colère.
The dog was very angry.
Il chassa le renard.
He chased the fox away.
Le renard courut rapidement dans la forêt.
The fox ran fast into the forest.
Il ne revint jamais.
He never came back.
Le coq descendit de l'arbre en volant.
The rooster flew down from the tree.
Le chien et le coq poursuivirent leur voyage ensemble, sains et saufs et heureux.
The dog and rooster continued their journey together, safe and happy.
