Un jeune crabe vivait au bord de la mer avec sa mère.

A young crab lived by the sea with his mother.

Il marchait de côté comme le font tous les crabes. Un jour, sa mère lui dit,

He walked sideways like all crabs do. One day, his mother said,

« Mon fils, tu ne devrais pas marcher de côté. »

"Son, you should not walk sideways."

Cela fait mauvais effet.

"It looks bad."

Tu devrais marcher droit comme les autres animaux.

"You should walk straight like other animals."

Le jeune crabe regarda sa mère.

The young crab looked at his mother.

Il dit,

He said,

« Mère, je veux marcher droit. »

"Mother, I want to walk straight."

« Mais je ne sais pas comment. »

"But I do not know how."

Peux-tu me montrer ?

"Can you show me?"

La mère crabe essaya de marcher droit.

The mother crab tried to walk straight.

Elle remua ses pattes, mais elle ne put que marcher de côté elle aussi.

She moved her legs, but she could only walk sideways too.

« Moi non plus, je n'y arrive pas, »

"I cannot do it either,"

dit la mère crabe.

said the mother crab.

Elle se sentait ridicule.

She felt silly.

Le jeune crabe dit,

The young crab said,

« Mère, si vous ne pouvez marcher droit, comment puis-je apprendre ? »

"Mother, if you cannot walk straight, how can I learn?"

« Nous sommes tous les deux des crabes. »

"We are both crabs."

Nous marchons de la même façon.

"We walk the same way."

La mère crabe comprit.

The mother crab understood.

Elle dit,

She said,

« Tu as raison, mon fils. »

"You are right, my son."

« Je ne devrais pas te demander de faire quelque chose que je ne peux pas faire moi-même. »

"I should not ask you to do something I cannot do myself."

À partir de ce jour, la mère crabe ne dit plus jamais à son fils de marcher droit.

From that day, the mother crab never told her son to walk straight again.

Ils marchèrent tous deux de côté ensemble et furent heureux.

They both walked sideways together and were happy.
