Un joven cangrejo vivía junto al mar con su madre.

A young crab lived by the sea with his mother.

Caminaba de lado como hacen todos los cangrejos. Un día, su madre le dijo,

He walked sideways like all crabs do. One day, his mother said,

"Hijo, no deberías caminar de lado."

"Son, you should not walk sideways."

Se ve mal.

"It looks bad."

"Deberías caminar erguido como los otros animales."

"You should walk straight like other animals."

El joven cangrejo miró a su madre.

The young crab looked at his mother.

Él dijo,

He said,

"Madre, quiero caminar derecho."

"Mother, I want to walk straight."

"Pero no sé cómo."

"But I do not know how."

¿Puedes enseñarme?

"Can you show me?"

La madre cangrejo trató de caminar derecho.

The mother crab tried to walk straight.

Movió sus patas, pero ella también solo podía caminar de lado.

She moved her legs, but she could only walk sideways too.

"Yo tampoco puedo hacerlo,"

"I cannot do it either,"

dijo la madre cangrejo.

said the mother crab.

Se sintió tonta.

She felt silly.

El joven cangrejo dijo,

The young crab said,

"Madre, si tú no puedes caminar derecho, ¿cómo puedo yo aprender?"

"Mother, if you cannot walk straight, how can I learn?"

"Ambos somos cangrejos."

"We are both crabs."

Caminamos de la misma manera.

"We walk the same way."

La madre cangrejo comprendió.

The mother crab understood.

Ella dijo,

She said,

"Tienes razón, hijo mío."

"You are right, my son."

"No debería pedirte que hagas algo que yo mismo no puedo hacer."

"I should not ask you to do something I cannot do myself."

Desde ese día, la madre cangrejo nunca más le dijo a su hijo que caminara derecho.

From that day, the mother crab never told her son to walk straight again.

Ambos caminaron de lado juntos y fueron felices.

They both walked sideways together and were happy.
