One day, he went to a clear pond to drink some water.

As he bent down, he saw his reflection in the water.

O veado admirava os seus fortes e bonitos chifres.

The stag admired his strong and handsome antlers.

"Oh, quão magníficas são as minhas chifres!", disse ele a si mesmo.

"Oh, how magnificent my antlers are!" he said to himself.

Mas depois olhou para as pernas e ficou triste.

But then he looked at his legs and felt sad.

"Minhas pernas são tão finas e feias", pensou ele.

"My legs are so thin and ugly," he thought.

Naquele momento, um leão apareceu por trás dos arbustos.

Just then, a lion appeared from behind the bushes.

O veado fugiu rapidamente para se salvar.

The stag quickly ran away to save himself.

Suas pernas finas e rápidas o ajudaram a escapar do leão.

His thin and fast legs helped him escape from the lion.

Ele fugiu para o fundo da floresta, onde o leão não podia segui-lo.

He ran deep into the forest where the lion couldn't follow.

Mas, ao correr, os chifres ficaram presos nos galhos de uma árvore.

But as he ran, his antlers got stuck in the branches of a tree.

The stag struggled and tried hard to free himself, but he couldn't.

The lion caught up with him and roared loudly.
