Las dos cabras

Había una vez dos cabras.

Once upon a time, there were two goats.

Vivían en lados opuestos de un valle.

They lived on opposite sides of a valley.

Un día, ambas cabras querían cruzar un puente estrecho que pasaba por un río profundo.

One day, both goats wanted to cross a narrow bridge that went over a deep river.

El puente era tan estrecho que solo una cabra podía cruzarlo a la vez.

The bridge was so narrow that only one goat could cross at a time.

La primera cabra comenzó a cruzar el puente por un lado.

The first goat started to cross the bridge from one side.

Al mismo tiempo, el segundo chivo comenzó a cruzar desde el otro lado.

At the same time, the second goat started to cross from the other side.

Cuando se encontraron en el medio, ambos se detuvieron.

When they met in the middle, they both stopped.

No había suficiente espacio para que ambos pasaran.

There was not enough room for both of them to pass.

Comenzaron a discutir.

They started to argue.

"¡Yo debería ir primero!", dijo la primera cabra.

"I should go first!" said the first goat.

"No, yo debería ir primero", dijo la segunda cabra.

"No, I should go first!" said the second goat.

Empujaron y empujaron, tratando de pasar el uno al otro.

They pushed and shoved, trying to get past each other.

De repente, ambos perdieron el equilibrio y cayeron al río.

Suddenly, they both lost their balance and fell into the river below.

La corriente era fuerte, y lucharon para nadar.

The current was strong, and they struggled to swim.

Afortunadamente, algunas personas amables los vieron y los ayudaron a salir del agua.

Luckily, some kind people saw them and helped them out of the water.

The goats were safe but very wet and tired.

They realized that their arguing had caused them to fall.

Decidieron ser más cuidadosos y educados en el futuro.

They decided to be more careful and polite in the future.

A partir de ese día, cada vez que se encontraban en el puente, uno se apartaba y dejaba pasar al otro.

From that day on, whenever they met on the bridge, one would step aside and let the other pass first.

Aprendieron que es mejor ser amable y paciente que empujar y discutir.

They learned that it's better to be kind and patient than to push and argue.
