As rãs e o boi

Era uma vez, havia umas rãzinhas a brincar num lago.

Once upon a time, there were some little frogs playing in a pond.

Estavam a saltar e a salpicar, a divertir-se imenso.

They were jumping and splashing, having lots of fun.

Um dia, um grande boi veio ao lago beber água.

One day, a big ox came to the pond to drink water.

As rãs nunca tinham visto algo tão grande antes.

The frogs had never seen anything so huge before.

Ficaram assustados e começaram a croar alto.

They were scared and started to croak loudly.

"Olhe para aquele gigante!" disse uma rã.

"Look at that giant!" one frog said.

"Ele é tão grande, que pode pisar em nós!" gritou outro sapo.

"He's so big, he might step on us!" another frog cried.

As rãs incharam os corpos, tentando parecer maiores.

The frogs puffed up their bodies, trying to look bigger.

Pensavam que se fossem grandes como o boi, se sentiriam mais seguros.

They thought if they looked big like the ox, they would feel safer.

Mas não importa o quanto eles incham, não conseguem igualar o tamanho do boi.

But no matter how much they puffed, they couldn't match the ox's size.

O boi bebeu calmamente a água e foi-se embora.

The ox just calmly drank his water and left.

As rãs perceberam que tentar ser algo que não eram era tolice.

The frogs realized that trying to be something they weren't was silly.

Voltaram a ser pequenos sapos felizes, a desfrutar do lago.

They went back to being happy little frogs, enjoying their pond.

A moral da história é: seja você mesmo, porque tentar ser alguém que não é pode ser inútil e cansativo.

The moral of the story is: Be yourself, because trying to be something you're not can be pointless and tiring.
