O carvalho e os juncos

Era uma vez um robusto carvalho e alguns canudos que cresciam perto de um rio.

Once upon a time, there was a strong oak tree and some little reeds growing by a river.

O carvalho era alto e orgulhoso.

The oak tree was tall and proud.

Olhou para os juncos e disse: "São tão pequenos e fracos.

It looked down at the reeds and said, "You are so small and weak.

Quando o vento sopra, você se dobra e balança.

When the wind blows, you bend and sway.

Sou forte e fico firme, não importa o que aconteça".

I am strong and stand tall no matter what."

Os juncos responderam: "Sim, nós nos dobramos com o vento, mas é assim que ficamos seguros.

The reeds replied, "Yes, we bend with the wind, but that is how we stay safe.

Você é forte, mas às vezes ser flexível é melhor do que ser forte".

You are strong, but sometimes being flexible is better than being strong."

Um dia, veio uma grande tempestade.

One day, a big storm came.

O vento soprava muito forte.

The wind blew very hard.

O carvalho tentou ficar alto, mas o vento era muito forte.

The oak tree tried to stand tall, but the wind was too strong.

O carvalho quebrou e caiu no chão.

The oak tree broke and fell to the ground.

Os juncos, porém, dobraram-se com o vento e ficaram seguros.

The reeds, however, bent with the wind and stayed safe.

Quando a tempestade passou, os juncos ainda estavam de pé, mas o carvalho estava quebrado.

When the storm was over, the reeds were still standing, but the oak tree was broken.

Os juncos disseram: "Às vezes, é melhor dobrar um pouco do que tentar ser muito forte".

The reeds said, "Sometimes, it is better to bend a little than to try to be too strong."

A lição a ser aprendida é esta: Às vezes, ser flexível e adaptar-se às mudanças pode ser melhor do que ser rígido e inflexível.

The moral of the story is: Sometimes, being flexible and adapting to changes can be better than being too rigid and unyielding.
