Le chêne et les roseaux
Il était une fois un grand chêne et quelques petits roseaux qui poussaient au bord d'une rivière.
Once upon a time, there was a strong oak tree and some little reeds growing by a river.
Le chêne était grand et fier.
The oak tree was tall and proud.
Il a regardé les roseaux et a dit: "Vous êtes si petits et faibles.
It looked down at the reeds and said, "You are so small and weak.
Quand le vent souffle, vous vous pliez et vous balancez.
When the wind blows, you bend and sway.
Je suis fort et je reste ferme quoi qu'il arrive. "
I am strong and stand tall no matter what."
Les roseaux répondirent: "Oui, nous nous plions avec le vent, mais c'est ainsi que nous restons en sécurité.
The reeds replied, "Yes, we bend with the wind, but that is how we stay safe.
Vous êtes fort, mais parfois être flexible est mieux que d'être fort. "
You are strong, but sometimes being flexible is better than being strong."
Un jour, une grosse tempête est arrivée.
One day, a big storm came.
Le vent soufflait très fort.
The wind blew very hard.
Le chêne essaya de tenir debout, mais le vent était trop fort.
The oak tree tried to stand tall, but the wind was too strong.
Le chêne s'est brisé et est tombé au sol.
The oak tree broke and fell to the ground.
Les roseaux, cependant, se pliaient avec le vent et restaient en sécurité.
The reeds, however, bent with the wind and stayed safe.
Quand la tempête a cessé, les roseaux étaient toujours debout, mais le chêne était cassé.
When the storm was over, the reeds were still standing, but the oak tree was broken.
Les roseaux ont dit: "Parfois, il vaut mieux se plier un peu que d'essayer d'être trop fort".
The reeds said, "Sometimes, it is better to bend a little than to try to be too strong."
La leçon à tirer de cette histoire est la suivante: parfois, il vaut mieux être souple et s'adapter aux changements que trop rigide et inflexible.
The moral of the story is: Sometimes, being flexible and adapting to changes can be better than being too rigid and unyielding.
