أخذو يدوّرون بنادقهم المحشوّة بالكامل عاليا، ثمّ شحنو أكبر ما أمكنهم من السرعة وهم يرتفعون من فوق أسرجتهم و يكبسون

They twirl aloft their richly inlaid guns; then. Putting their chargers to their fullest speed, the riders rise in the stirrups,

على اللجام بأسنانهم منطلقين أمامنا بهيبة سريعة.رغم أن الخيول تقدّمت بعدو سريع إلاّ أنها حافظت على الخط بدقّة،

seize the reins between their teeth, and sweep toward us in swift majesty. On go the horses at full gallop, still accurately in line.

وبتسارع مستمرّ وضع الخيّالة البنادق على رؤوسهم ،لتصبح معلّقة عاليا في الهواء، ثم تنحدر بفضل قبضة الأيادي الحديدية التي لا تعرف الفشل أبدا،

 Faster and faster spit the guns above the riders’ heads; now muskets are tossed high in air, and descending are caught by strong bronzed hands that never fail.

مع عدو الخيول بقي الفرسان مرتفعين من فوق صهواتهم و ملتفّين في حللهم الفضفاضة مما جعلهم يبدون كسحابة دخّان طائرة

 On go the horses; then the mean, still standing in the stirrups, their loose garments enveloping them like rapid-flying clouds, 

.ثمّ وبإشارة واحدة من قائدهم تم إطلاق وابل من الطلقات المدوّية دفعة واحدة،و من تحت غطاء دخاننيّ -على الفور وبشظايا قاسية-قامو بتفقّد أحصنتهم اللاهثة

at a signal discharge a rousing volley, and under cover of the smoke, check –almost instantaneously with the cruel bits –their panting horses,

والمدمية الأفواه،المشوّهة بعمق والمجورحة بواسطة الوخزات.ليتكرّر أمامنا هذا المشهد الرّائع و هذه الإثارة الكبيرة عدّة مرّات،إلى أن أمسى القائد راضيا بمجموعة ''الخياّلة الشظفة''

bloody-mouthed and deeply scarred and wounded by the spurs. This intensely thrilling and picturesque performance is rehearsed before us several times, the chief being  proud of his little band of “rough riders.”

الصغيرة خاصّته.تفحّص الرجال باستهزاء سروجنا الإنجليزيّة وأحصنتنا بذيولها القصيرة المبتورة، فضحكو على عصيّ وخزنا الصغيرة،لأن عصيّهم كانت عبارة عن مسامير ضخمة وحادّة و أطول بثلاث أوأربع إنشات من التي لدينا.

The men disdainfully examine our English saddles, our horses with docked tails, and laugh at our tiny spurs, for their spurs are sharp spikes three or four inches long. 

تحدانا هؤلاء الفرسان بازدراء لننضمّ إليهم في فنتازيا أخرى.وقصد إذهال القائد قام صديقي بقبول التّحدّي.حشيت فوهات البنادق الطويلة مرّة أخرى،

 They mockingly challenge us to join them in another fantasia, and to the amazement of the chief my friend accepts the challenge. The long muzzle-loading rifles are charged again,

هرولت الكتيبة كاملة بعيدا ببطء يتوسّطها أمريكي.صدّينا وجوهنا نحو الخيّالة وهم يشكّلون الخطّ، فبدؤو بتدوير بنادقهم عاليا، بعدم توفُّر الغريب على بندقيّة مماثلة

and the entire troop, with an American in its midst, slowly canters away. Facing about, the horsemen form in line and begin to twirl their guns on high. Having no rifle, 

اِستلّ مسدّسا أمريكياًّ وأخذ يلوّح به .فجأة بعد ذلك وثبت الخيول بعيدا،فكانت الفتنازيا كالزوبعة بالنسبة إلينا،فقد تم تفريغ البنادق

the stranger draws and flourishes an American revolver. Then, suddenly, the horses eap away, and like a whirlwind the fantasia is upon us. The muskets are discharged;

تسرد القصة حكاية لقاء الرحالة الأمريكي بورتن هولمز بفيلق من الفرسان المغاربة خلال رحلته إلى المغرب إبان نهاية القرن التاسع عشر، حيث قاموا بإذهاله بعرض مثير للفنتازيا المغربية الشهيرة

The strory tells the tale of the meeting of the American traveler Burton Holmes with the a troop of Moroccan knights through his journey inside Morocco in the 19th centry, where they had amazed him with an excitative show of the famous Moroccan Fantasy
